Waving my filthy willy around...

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
DUF what a ledge, would love a drive in a williams to see what they are all about

If you are ever down my way feel free to have a go in mine, technically its not a williams on the log book as its williams engine and running gear in an identical valver shell but it obviously drives exactly the same as it would with a williams vin number.

They look brilliant when clean, I'd love to own one but wouldn't like to live with an old car again :dapprove:

imo they dont. the shell in the williams is a fair bit stiffer without the huge hole in the roof. but they are near as damnit

There is naff all rigidity in the roof panel itself with or without a sunroof in it, its just a big floppy piece of metal either way, in fact I think in terms of stiffness of the roof panel the sunroof probably wins, although of course loses out on weight!
But anyway as this thread is about a williams 2 with a sunroof, the shell is the same as a valver anyway.

hmmmm.every valver iv ever had has buckled at the rear of the sunroof. in fact, pretty much every one iv seen that has been driven enthusiastically has also done this.

maybe its the wider track that helps it feel that little bit tighter.

that cant be mate...theres naff all rigidity in the roof..... although iv never seen a williams do it. funny that.

The wider track makes a massive difference, really noticed it when I widetracked my valver.
If you use R19 arms like I did you gain more caster too, which is even better, handles better than a williams then.

Williams do it too, just less common as they just tend not to be driven as hard as people care more about them, lol

i beg to differ. the majority of williams i know of have had as much of a hard life as any valver i know of. how you can say the owners care more about them is a joke....i cared about my valvers, which im sure the majority of valver owners also do. i care about my williams, again, as im sure the williams owners do too. i care about the trophy, but not as much as i do my williams. but the williams has still had a harder life than the trophy.....go figure.

my valvers have buckled the roof within a year of ownership, months in some cases...the williams i have had for over 10 years now, its had a million times more abuse than any valver iv owned.....the roof......still silky smooth and straight as a die.

2 live, there is no difference in the roof. The shells are the same when its a sunroof williams shell and a valver shell. Adding williams stickers to it doesnt make it stronger.
The reason it buckles is the roof is all flexi and wobbly and the sunroof is stiff and rigid, so when the shell flexes the roof moves but the sunroof doesnt.
So if yours doesnt have a sunroof it wont buckle as there isnt anything rigid for it to buckle against.

Not driven an original valver or Williams. I would like to. In fact... Think I would like to buy a big std Williams. Would also like a big std fiesta Rsturbo as well. Two cars I lusted after as a early teen!

Well mine is nothing like a cherished example, but you are certainly welcome to throw it around a track anytime you like.
TBH its not very different handling wise to a 172, but Im sure you remember that from when you first drove your original 172 when helen still owned it and we were playing at bedford.

If you do get a standard williams, we can do the same thing again, but this time I'll use the mrs 172, that was SO much fun. Equal cars rock, even though we're a long way from equal as drivers, especially at Bedford!

Ph1's are Odyssey Blue, Ph2's are Monaco.

I don't think Odyssey looks much like the Williams 3 blue.

Ah my mistake mate, phase 2 then, I knew one of the shapes used the monaco but wasnt sure which. Im not very good on colours and stuff TBH, only really interested in the engines and the handling, lol

Thanks for correcting me :)

Main one is the colour, they swapped from 449 to 432 (called monaco, also used on a small number of phase 1 172 IIRC)

and the door bars, sunroof, diff seats etc etc etc i could go on.........

but yeah... they arent far off each other ;)

  williams and trophy
yes. but its also easy to notice the other differences if you know what your looking for. its like sayimg a trophy and a cup are the same except the colour. when in reality theyr poles apart.

Best title for a thread ever. I would love a go in a williams!

+1.

My brother had a Valver back in the day, if a Williams is even better then I'll agree that it's the best Renault have produced.
