Wax safe pre-wash

So. Lots of discussion about this stage recently because of ASDAs price drop on a relatively unknown product; Rapid Dirt Shifter from CarPlan/Demon Shine. Much like AF's Citrus Power, this is an LSP safe pre wash spray that breaks down grime.

The question is, with ASDA able to sell this product so cheap, and occasional talk of AF "repackaging products", what else is there out there that you've tried that competes?

I was impressed with Citrus Power but the price was just a bit much.

I prefer just to proper powerwash and snowfoam the car then hand wash. I have all the proper tools and space to do this though, many don't.

Also most of the time I use hazsafe from AS because i'm going to be detailing the car so if the dilution is too much it doesn't matter.

See, this is the reason I'm asking. I don't have the necessary space or hardware to do this. So for me, it's a case of detail and protect it will every 6 months, then use a decent pre wash to soak the grime and take it to the local jet wash.

Pre wash that is safe with wax. There's not many that aren't s**t tbh. Even citrus I'm on the fence about some times. I still prefer a couple of hits of snowfoam mixed with some wax safe shampoo to do do a better job tbh

Then again I mostly wash and details cars from fresh. Mine tends to not get touch for months.

What are you using currently through the lance, Ant?

Kev, coming your way.

Avalanche, autobrite sf, or some of the cheap foam I have. I mix it with a capful of shampoo generall DJ btbm or lather. Sticks better, foams better.

That's on a general wash. f**k paying for citrus anymore. It really isn't that great.

Bump, whats the cheapest people can get RDS for?

With the winter coming in I'll probably resort to using some of this and the local garage jet wash to clean my car, just looking at how much I should pay.

I've not bought any for a while, so not sure what the going rate is. I know it's £6.99 in Halfrauds... £6 on ASDA's site IIRC...

Missus works at halfords I'll see if she can get them a bit cheaper or anything.

How many uses to you get from one bottle?

Would you call it wax safe JD? I was applying C2V3 after my testing anyway but just out of curiosity.

Cool. Done some testing on a high mileage van also, rather impressive!

Hot wheels also rather good JD!

Aye, defo wax safe Kev. No worries, bought too many of the towels as well and not sure if you can get them locally, hence the inclusion of that for your thoughts as well :)

Think I hit a bottle of RDS for £3 in store at ASDA.

Can see me grabbing a few more next time I see it cheap.

Last week ASDA in store was £6 for a litre bottle of RDS.

For me as I use it quite a lot, 5L of AF citrus power for £35. Works out to be £7/litre but for routine washes I dilute it 1:1 with water and still is affective provided your LSP is still performing, therefore £3.50/litre

I've not found RDS to work as well diluted.

Another option provided the LSP is working well is the carplan / demonshine snow foam shampoo / green bottle. Works OK through a lance or spray bottle. Will be fine for general dirt but didn't cut through baked on flies or unprotected traffic film. Have seen this for <£4 a litre but then diluted through a sprayer or lance.

I've just bought some of the valet pro citrus, it's as fairly good, I also bought a 2l bottle of demon shine with a 'spray gun on top' so put the pre wash in that and spray it on, works quite well as I don't have a jetwash!

Try a hand pump pressurised spray bottle from B&Q for a couple of £. You can then get much more control over application and how much you use.

all my local asdas RDS was at £6 last week sainsburys had it on offer at 1/2 for £3.50 only had 2 instock went to another sainsburys and it was 1/3 off so used my recite for a price match.

Thanks for this, Ben. Will check en route home.

Bringing this back to topic, what would people recommend for dilution ratios with valet pro citrus pre wash, or do you use it neat?

Will be used through a spray or hand pump bottle

I use 1-4 winter works well enough for me

I don't think RDS is great diluted. I'm sure it's £3.99 in Morrison's . I'm also not convinced its 100% lsp safe

RDS neat was just about as good as AF citrus power diluted 1:1 with water. and agreed not sure how LSP safe it is a I often found it affecting water behaviour when I used it. Only use it on wheels and tyres, arches etc.

I can't find it cheap locally anymore so don't bother with it and won't be replacing it when I run out.

I found it ok on about 10 different lsp' that I've applied.

I've run out now and resorted back to snow foam and with a bit of shampoo in it. Shouldn't have bothered changing.

As Dave says, it's as good neat as CP is diluted 1:1, so they're on a par, cost wise. And as Ant says, from several LSPs, it appears fine in my trials.

Need to test a bit more but tough coat didn't seem to like it.

For an extra £1 per litre, you could have 5litres of autofinesse citrus power. If ypu use it as regularly as I do its well worth it.

And when you consider RDS seems to perform as well as citrus power diluted 1:1 with water meaning it's only £3.50 per litre, RDS isn't all that cheap at £6 per litre

Agreed, it only made sense when ASDA did it for £3 and I bought 36 from Halfrauds with their price match and 342 offer... lol.

They must have loved you buying all that lot! I don't think I'd have space for it all. I can't find any of the demon shine products now on special or <£7

I meant to play with VP citrus this afternoon but reached for AF citrus power without thinking so will have to wait again.

I showed you my shed, right? All hung on the wall (it's a slotted wooden panel shed, so the triggers of RDS hang off!). But didn't buy all in one go. Started taking 342 products with price match, so WWHWsx2 at £1.73 + RDS at £2.25 = £3.98.
