Probably a really easy one, and one I should know, but why do some websites load when you just type in cliosport.net, without the www. where as harrisonmurray.co.uk, wont work without the www. ???

because they have not set it up properly on IIS or apache or else.

the domain name is actually

domain.com or another TOP level domain.

www.domain.com has a www record in front.

same as you could have

test.domain.com

Spot on, www bit means f all really. You can change weather your site does it or not by changing your .htaccess file.

Nope, not in this case. (Well it may be, but it's not the main problem at the moment )

It's because there isn't the required record in DNS.

(If you care, you need an @ A record pointing to the webserver IP, in the harrisonmurrary.co.uk zone)
