Weird XP behavior.

I recently installed an XP SP2 (oem) on a new build pc i made.

Everything is fine except one thing, native disc burning is missing.

Ive installed nero and that works fine, but windows doesn't have any built in burning features working.

Any ideas, id like to avoid a reinstall.

Hmm sounds v strange. Have you do all important Windows updates??

Yup, was going to try SP3 to see if that worked.

Right ok, also try going to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services, Double-click "IMAPI CD Burning", click Start, and set "Startup type" as "Manual" or "Automatic". May also need a reboot.

If the above doesn't work, right click the cd drive in my computer and properties.. On the recording tab make sure the 'enable recording for this drive' is ticked.

I would say Adam has solved your problem there Tom. If not, have you checked the settings on the drive itself? It should also tell you whether it's working properly or not..

Drive recording tab is not present on the drive.

Yet the drive has the correct drivers and functions perfectly.

The machine has 2 combo drives and both behave in the same way.

Would it simply not burn without nero?

What happens when you put a blank disk in? A box should appear with the options rah rah rah, does the windows create data disk etc option appear?

Honestly, I don't find this sort of thing fun..withdrawl symptoms from work.

The auto run box comes up but none of the burning options appear.

I looked for a similar problem and just came across this. You might want to try and update the drivers for the drives? Or run the troubleshooter. I'm sure someone will come up with something soon..

Wel Microsoft answer to this is that the hardware in question is not compatable with XP lol.
