Getting fed up fo this bl00dy Clio now...

Ive actually now compiled a list of the faults so far and to date its only 9 weeks old but the list is coming along nicely!

Currently theres a PAS fluid leak, which I mentioned before and they were "meant" to have looked at, but it seems that its coming through the actual sensor itself (mounted on PAS pipe near alternator) rather than iut being loose, as Ive checked it all out myself. Should be just a case of swapping the part.

I also think that the PAS pump is noisy on full lock and sounds like a bag of spanners, but well see what they reckon. Would like to listen to others to compare though then I dont get fobbed off. Can some of you tell me if your PAS pumps sound "ok" on full lock please?!

When I got back off my hols the coolant level had dropped to below minimum, so I topped it up and so far it aint moved. This is probably just from when they dropped the engine for the gearbox and the colling system has now purged any air and taken the coolant from the header tank. Will keep my eye on it though.

Also now seems to knock every so often on gearchanges, oddly not when nailing it, but when changing into 5th gear under "normal" driving, so dunno what gives there.

I know then engines been out for the gearbox to be swapped and it could be just a loose mounting, which is what it sounds/feels like, but surely it would knock & thump more when nailing it in lower gears?!

Got the knocking noise from the rear brakes too, so that needs checking. Will just get them to look on the ACTIS system, see whats on there and tell them to do it all now then it gets it over and done with as I am fed up of taking it to the garage every week...

This is the most unreliable car I have ever owned in 10 years of driving!

Better sort itself out soon or its bye bye Cup and Ive already been thinking what else I can get that doesnt have the build quality of a christmas cracker! :(

I know just how you feel mate. I really enjoy driving my car, but Im only used to visiting dealers for servicing and nothing more. Ive had my 172 6 months from new and its going in for the 3rd time next month. Although they have agreed to look at it this afternoon just to make sure whatever fell off over the weekend isnt serious.

Ive given my car until March, if its not bucked its ideas up by then its going.

Unfortunately thats why I sold mine and got a BMW. In a year I had:

1) Rear brakes pads dissintegrate on me whilst driving

2) Steering wheel not straight

3) Rear lights cutting out randomly

4) Brake lights not coming on until the brake pedal was nearly fully depressed

5) Exhaust centre section replaced

6) Trouble engaging 2nd gear

And Im sure there were a few others too!

Need to nip into Preston to drop my mobile off at the Nokia centre for a software update, so that will only take a few mins and I can be back.

Lunch from 12:00 onwards, can take when I want really...

You know what you cup boys need to chop your car in for something more reliable! Like maybe a Lada hehe

Remember the Lada Jokes they will be making them about the cup soon. I was really thinking about a 172 next year when I finish my degree and finances permit but now after reading all this not going to bother. Same cause it has some really good strong points!

Talk to Barry Williams @ Renault in rickmansworth.

Hes the Customer service manager, explain all the problems youve been having and see what he can do. Not sure where you stand legally, but if its on finance the finance company should be able to do something. If not, try and resolve the situtation with renault !!!

Where is rickmansworth???

The car isnt on finance either, I gave them a big wedge of cash which was partly from my old car and partly from Cahoot so no joy there.

Will talk to my mate at my local dealer as he sold me the thing!

Just ring renualt UK and ask for Barry, he is quite helpfull if you can get hold of him, but he is busy as there are lots of problems with Clios.

I had the passenger airbag go off on me for no reason while doing 70 on a dual carrageway overtaking a truck, it almost killed me as I lost power and caused the truck to break to avoid me I ended up on the grass behind a crash barrior with a flat as I got a puncture from all the rubish behind the crash barrior. IT took 5 weeks and 40 phone calls to get it fixed and avoid £3000 cost to replace a seat. I also got £200 worth of vouchers which I havent used as I dont have a Renualt anymore.

Hence one of my reasons for getting a golf.

Met up with Chris (aka chris n nic) this lunchtime and had a blast in each others cars...

His Cup also has the same PAS fluid leak, from the same place, but not as bad as mine, but his PAS pump sounds noisy like mine too!

Now I dont feel as bad!

Just want it sorted then I can enjoy the car for what it is, rather than trekking to the garage every week!

rich-d thats really unfortunate mate! My heart goes out to you... Renault make good cars, but they dont get built too well!! Make sure youre in the next "JD Power" survey and let em have it! I think youre not alone. I have heard loads of people complaining about crap 172s. I think you should start a "Friday afternoon 172 owners club"!

My car is being inspected on Thursday to discover what exactly has been done to it before it arrived at the dealer. Mechanically it seems to be sound, which is nice :) but:

The nearside rear quarter panel has been re-sprayed. Badly.
The passenger door paint has been touched up in places
The drivers door paint has been touched up in places
The boot lid (under the number plate) has rusted
Paint inside the bootlid is peeling off. A lot.
Paint inside the engine bay is peeling off
The car has had no warranty claims done on it, so it looks like either:

The factory did some botched repairs to correct a naff paint job
The importer/distributer in the UK did some botched repairs to correct a naff paint job
At the moment, no-one from Renault is replying to e-mails etc from my dealer so no-one is saying where all this crap work was done  This si supposed to be new, feash from the factory, car!!!!!

Im going to try and reject it, or sell it back to the dealer. Car is great, but at the moment its got sh*te re-sale value and it seems impossible to find out where the repairs were done.

I will never buy a Renault again.

Not sure if this helps but a recent revision to the supply and sale of goods act means that the burden of proof now rests with the supplier.

What does this mean?

Well, regardless of what you buy, if it develops a fault within the first six months of ownership it is deemed to have existed at the time of sale, unless the supplier can prove that it didnt.

Judging by the list of flaws that I see above Id suggest that you have very reasonable grounds for rejecting the car. If they were all apparent when you took delivery...would you ever have accepted it then?

Mark.
