Whack The Starter Motor

Evening ppl, how you all doing??

Basicly i drove to my mates about half a mile away, popped into his place for a while, and when i went to start my car nothing happened, so i tried again and nothing, no turning over etc :dapprove: , so i popped the bonnet, to see if i could identify any loose wires or something disconnected, but saw nothing..

My mate then decided to hit my starter motor with a hammer as i turned the key:quiet: , and this inturn started my car.. phew!!

Now my car starts everytime:) . So the question is how long is a starter motor suppose to last, and do i need a new starter, or should it be ok, and how much would a new starter motor cost roughly??
Thanks

save you £ and just buy a hammer;)

also sounds daft but just give it a good spray with wd40 or the like! will help it last longer

So it's done it once in how many years? It will be fine unless it keeps doing it.

Chances are it'll do it more and more regularly.

If it were my car i'd be getting a new starter before this one can't be fixed with a hammer lol!

Get it changed its just the biggining of your trouble.
No need to kit it just leave it in gear and knock the car forwards a bit to unstick the starter.

Had to change mine last summer. It looked like the original, so it must have lasted about 8 years. You can probably find a refurbished one for about £60 or so (that's what i paid anyway). I'm told they are just as good as new ones.
