What 32" LCD TV?

  Octavia VRS
For the folks, does anyone have any recommendations?

I've told them not to look past the usual Sony/Panasonic/Philips chat but I've heard Samsung are not too bad.

Cheers. What specs should I be looking for with LCD? I take it 100 Hz is desirable and what is this 1080 I've seen being advertised? Not up to speed on my LCD TVs

720i and 1080p are the types of HD its compatible with, 1080 being the better one.

built in DVB is a must, at least 2 HDMIs and a couple of scarts, Component input is useful.

personally id go Panasonic, but Samsung are very good aswell

stay well away from the cheap brands that you have never heard of, yes you might save £100 but you have probably just wasted £600, they are NOT as good

went looking at tvs with my mate the other day, read a million times online that Samsung are the best, but IMO i still like the Panasonics, which are still one of the top names in HD TV's

1080p is better than 1080i

Not always true. My TV branded as a Hyundai I got for around £500. Same TV with a Marantz badge on the front at the time was going for £1200. It is exactly the same set. Just the badge is different. And for £500 back then it was a bargain and was a fairly decent set.

the hanspree are good also for the money. read the reviews on ebuyer, people were saying their 'better' branded tv's were no better. hanspree are monitor specialists tho!

The hannsprees can be hit and miss. You either get a good one where the picture quality is apprently really good or an utterly shite one which has red and green ghosting...so crap.

not a fan of the Sony stuff tbh, over priced and the picture quality isnt that good IMO

If you've seen them in store then the signals they pump through are usually rubbish. Saying that in Comet today I was looking at them all next to each other and the Sony's looked better than most although some of the Samsung and Panasonic were great too. Believe me at home with an HD signal it's superb. SD is also very good with a good signal.

I've got the Toshiba 32WLT66.

Looked at A LOT of TV's in the same bracket at the time and I considered the Tosh to be the best picture. I considered it to be better than Samsung, Sony and Panasonic's picture quality.

Ive got a Samsung 32" lcd tv, its brilliant, and like has been said before you can get them for £500 now, 1080i 8000:1 contrast ratio
It was the best one I saw for the money. 3Hdmi ports, 2 scart, optical port, a port for your pc etc. I saw some un heard of brands which were around the same spec for cheaper, but they didnt look a patch on the Samsung. Its even gotta funky light at the bottom!
I'm glad I went for that one anyway!

it will be 1080p input not output, these only have 720 lines, hense 720p native.

panasonic lxd700 or sony d3000

otherwise samsung is good if you can make do with the inoffensive sound quality.

I've got a Samsung, bought it off Play.com £499 with freeview built in, and free delivery :) arrived 2 days after i ordered it!

Love it!!!! got a a HDMI lead for the PS3, and got a digital lead into the surround sound, quality picture and quality sound.

Play.com are now selling the 37in for £569, but really, anything bigger than 34in you need plasma.

Did you get the Toshiba then? How you finding it?

Got my choices narrowed down to:
  1. Toshiba 32C3035D with MC3C30 stand - £450
  2. Samsung LE32R87BDX - £440
Leaning towards the Toshiba cos it comes with the stand.
