What are the best performance mods?

  04 Clio 182
I very recently purchased a 04 182 that had:
Ported and polished head
De Cat and full system
Air filter
Ac delete

The car went like an absolute rocket but unfortunately was using oil quite rapidly (1/2 litre in 400 miles) and was also loosing water (4 litres in 40miles)!!!! Didn’t over heat or seem to affect the running nonetheless I returned the car to the dealer and got a refund.
Today I purchased a bog standard 182 and it is definitely not as quick!
Is it worth doing exactly the same mods? Feel reluctant to take the head off, can’t help wondering if the previous cars head work had not quite been done right and was the cause of the oil and water loss.
Do have a miltek cat back on the new Car so will try a de cat first, can porting and polishing a 182 head bring significant gains?
Also wonder if first Car had cams and or re map as it really did fly!!!!

First one probably didnt have ported head not many people spend the dollar getting it done.

Get a health check done on current one, compression test and serviced/belts changed if not done. If belts have been done and depending whos fitted the bits might need the timing checked - as when out it can affect performance a fair bit.

The best performance mods will cost you thousands and thousands of pounds.

Or did you mean the best value performance mods?

Share your budget and it will help people help you.

Also, if you have any specific requirements other than more power/go faster, that will also get you the most appropriate responses.

Yea I doubt the head had been ported and polished, IIRC they are CNC'd from the factory anyway??
Chances are you current one has bad cam timing if it feels much slower, get that sorted and it'll be just as quick.

A decat, air filter and remap will get you maybe 5bhp, basically so little you can't barely feel it.

Don't bother with a decat as its a PITA come MOT time, they make the cabin stink of fuel and they use more to the gallon....oh and they give you naff all gains in performance.

Group N timing and induction kit will give half decent gains for not a lot of money, or if the belts need doing throw a set of 197 cams in there, Mine made 194hp and 171ft/lb with them and you could defo feel the difference, only lasted 300 miles before dropping a valve seat mind but get it done properly from a Renault Sport specialist and it will be a decent little upgrade.
