What coilovers for my 172 for £500 to £600 max...

I'm am pondering with the idea of dropping my Ph2 172 on its arse on coilovers. :)

My next question is what ones are the best i can get for less than 500 to 600 quid ?

And where would i be able to buy them ?
As i'm totally oblivious as to what coilies are good and what ones are bad :(

I may take it on the track in the future, so i dunno if this affects my choice or not.

I has seen some with damping which is adjsutable.

Would i really needs ones with damping adjustability?

As it'll spend most of its time on the road.

Any views would be appreciated.

I think you'll only need a damping-adjustable set if you're big into track days, or really fussy about stiffness on the road

Bilstien B14, i used to be able to get them for £570 and they are bassically the same as H&R

I have seen coilies for £300-£400, are they any good ?
As i have seen the following going cheap.

I tried Gdi and there website must be getting updated, it has nothing listed coilie wise :(

http://www.greydevilindustries.com/Products/default.asp?type=dept&DepartmentID=14166&MID=

Altrhough i may give them a call to see if they have anything.

And Yozzasport i couldn't see any neither, so i guess i'll have to call them too.

I'm stumped, which ones listed above would be a good bet, i aint too bothered about damping adjustment.

Get your opinions posted ;)

I'd stick to the bigger brands like Fk/ weitec or bilstien. The Gaz coilovers although good on other cars always have a bad reputation with clio owners. I wouldn't touch the v maxx ones with a barge pole i had them on my corsa and they are awful, imagine a driving round with leaking dampers well thats how good they are.

unless your going all out and buying H&R/Bilstein/AST or something along those lines i wouldnt bother, i had FK's before and my 172 on eibach springs handles better!

lol! FINALLY! I remember arguin with you a few yrs bak about FK's Vs Eibach.

I'd only consider KW's for a Renaultsport now.

What wrong with the Gaz ones like ?
And i was dubious about the V Maxx ones just with the price etc if that makes sense.

Are Eibachs really better than Fk's ?
Or is that personal choice ?

Just had a look on K Tec, the Kw's are a bit more than i was wanting to spend...
Grrr :(

Would coilovers be noticeably better than eibachs sportlines?
Whats the main differences between having sportlines, and having coilovers?

Why is that Martin?
I have Sportlines on the 172 at the moment, yes they are great compared to standard but I'd like the car a bit lower and with a bit less body-roll too

Sportline springs are just, well, umm, "just springs" - will give you a nice subtle drop and improve the handling without any loss of comfort.
Also the much cheaper option than coilovers, until you save up/make up your mind which ones to go for.

Coilovers are springs and shocks, on which you can adjust the ride-height if you want and various sets can be stiffer or softer than others. Hence why it is so difficult to choose the right set for your preference as nobody knows until they've tried them

well as said sportlines are just springs where coilovers are springs and dampers, but the standard dampers in my opinion are perfect for fast road, a set of slightly stiffer and lower springs like the eibachs match them perfectly as they give you a little less roll and a little bit more grip and are only slightly bumpier but still not bad at all.

im in the same boat as you, got sportlines mega happy with them but would like it to sit a bit lower but like i said id only replace them with top end coilovers and im not paying that for a bit lower :rasp:

no doubt coilovers would be brilliant on the track, my old car was perfect on a nice smooth road, handled brilliant but on your average road it wasnt that great, bump skiping everywhere etc, not sure if that was due to it being too low or FK's being too hard but even on the softest setting it was still a dog on a bumpy road, which unfortunately most up here are. the 172 however just eats up all the roads without a problem

i had sportlines on mine. and now have H&Rs the difference is great you can go into corners faster it stays planted on the road and there is no body roll whatsover. and also you can lower it more which is like a bonus. mine aint to harsh either still comfy imo

Only because thats what you have (on the vee, not a 172). I'm sure if you'd been able to get the H&R's, as you wanted, you'd be recommending those above all others. Out of interest, have you driven a 172 on KW's or AST's, or Billies?

me?

Driven H&R's, FK's, GAZ, Eibacs & KW's....KW's pwns all! On the 172 and V6...

The build and ease of set up is the most appealing thing!

So there was a massive difference between sportlines and coilovers then?
Hmmm....when I can upgrade my sus, im thinkin of either sportlines or possible coilovers. If there's that much of a difference, then it might have to be coilies!

it all comes down to cost aswell mate because H&Rs are £800+ where as springs are £120. so its what you can afford really

  172 Ph1, Lupo GTI
The Weitec ones are good and are made by KW so will have decent build quality plus you can get them for only £485 making them great value for money..

  C63 AMG, F430 & 172
Ive had H&R, LEDA, FK, KWv2 (short test albeit), KW V1 and GAZ.

In order I would have

Leda (just because of the hard core track aspect)
KW v2
H&R
KW v1

Then I would have sport lines with Koni dampers over these two;

Fk
Gas

I think some did at the start, mine were ace (had no leaking etc)

Ones I've bought have been re-built 3k ago,

Have to pay for a proper setup though :)

Lol...If yours were anything to go by i'll be bodyswerving them!
You talk tosh. As you know, I'm on a very different set-up now. And we were in birmingham, went above 40mph once on a DC! Hush-a-mouf, your sexiness doesn't make up for your jive talk.

Oh aye...Thats key for any coils tbh! Whats happening with Leda these days, did they not go into admin a while bak??

How much are you paying for the set-up?

Not sure, Last time tweeks did it, was £150 and was worse than it went it.

Ive been told to go to a place in warrington called system R, they have a good rep for setting CTR/Dc5's etc.. plus they have done a few clio's :)

Think they went into administration (sp) but some motorsport company bought them,

The new range for the clio is about 2.5K :/
