  Mk2 Blue Clio 1.6i 16V
Main dealer I'd say couple hundred pounds (considering my maid dealr wants to charge me £195 for a idle control valve + fitting), what about a local garage?

Yeah, thanks - I've a great garage that I use for MOTs and I know the guys there well, so if it needed to be done I'd get a quote from them :)

come on then ^^ less chatting and more action :rasp: rains stopped here :) LOL

Getting heavier here though, in fact it's tipping down :( !!

It's amazing how eager you are, Paul with someone else's money - yet you deliberate for ages over a camera, an exhaust, an SD card! LOL! :D

You wouldn't want me to make a rash decision and regret it now, would you? LOL!

Find a mechanic thats prepared to do it as a sideliner...

...I just got mine done, tnesioners and belts and service and it all came to £550, quite resonable, the cars sweet as a nut!

My old man's a mechanic (has been all his life but just took an early retirement a few months back) so he could have done it but obviously hasn't got the facilities at home.

If the car hasn't had it done when I go and look at it it's a concern as it should really have had one by now so you have to think that the previous owner was either ignorant and didn't know, or did know but couldn't be @rsed to have it done, which ain't good.

We'll see when I've been to see it :)

The previous owner probably just thought "I'll get it done at 72K" like 90% of other clio owners. I doubt it's neglect, at least you know what you are getting. I was daft and bought my clio with no research on 69k with no knowledge of cam belt service intervals.

For 3K I'd say it was worth if, give them grief about the belts not being done, non-standard rear bumper(even though it's better) and hopefully get it done to 2.5K and spend the difference on the belts being done.

Well, I could only try it LOL! but as they've only just reduced it by £1000, I can't see them budging on the price any further, but you never know, and as they saying goes - 'If you don't ask, you don't get' :)

So it has! Oh b******s!! might not bother now :( Unless it's been done to accomodate that twin tailpipe exhaust?

Is that a tape player I see - shouldn't it have a CD?

no. both Ph1 and Ph2 bumpers would require cutting for that. Check for signs of damage repair there.

Yeah, I know - I was just thinking that the previous owner, or whoever fitted it, might have figured, if they'd got to take the rear valance off anyway to make a good neat job of the cut out, they might as well take the oppertunity to fit a phase 2 bumper at the same time. But I'll make sure I have a good check around the boot area (which I'd have done anyway), but I'll take more time over that area for sure.

Cheers! :)

Right guys - been to look at it and..........NO!! Major misfire on the engine, bad smell of burning oil, badly fitted front bumper/valance and no paperwork to support a cambelt change.
And it was already running when I got there which I didn't like - I wanted to fire it up myself.

Suffice to say, I walked away.

Should have heard the thing when a few revs were added!! banging & popping away like hell!! I took my Dad with me who has 40 years experience as a mechanic and I trust his judgement.

I had major doubts when I heard the engine already running as I got there - people only do that when they've something to hide. I can just imagine the clouds of smoke on start up!! Stank of burning oil as it was ticking over.

I'd have been just buying a big bill! :(

Nay mind Plenty more out there. :)

EDIT: btw Paul - it had oil around that cam cover bolt like yours did before you had it fixed as well!

Made a good choice from walking away, that could have been a never ending nightmare!

Yeah, you're right - wasn't too far to go, so I'd always have been wondering if I hadn't gone. :)

Just for the record, the phase 2 rear bumper on it had been well fitted and inside the boot and the rear floorpan was all original so it had just been fitted for cosmetic reasons, not because of a rear shunt. Couldn't really make a definite judgement on the paint match as it was pi$$ing it down and the car was soaked. Doesn't really matter now anyway really LOL!
