what does fully comp actually mean i can do?

  MK2 PH2 & E46 330
Im still actually insured on the car I sold the other day. Runs out in a month, and when it does I will have 1 years no claims.

Very possibly on friday I could end up with a new Focus if I like the one im going to see. One of my friends said because I'm fully comp I can drive any other car with the owners permission.

Im just asking because incase I buy it I'd like to drive it home.

Can someone help me?

Your 1 years no claims will not count, it is illegal to have 2 insurance policies on one car. Basically means your last 11 months of insurance are wasted due to your insurance being void as you no longer own the car you are insured on.

read your insurance policy...It's like asking me to tell you what colour your pants are.

My policy says on the first page I am allowed to drive any vehicle third party with owners permission. your policy may say in emergencys only or not at all.

Hi mate. You can legally drive any other car as long as the car is insured by someone else 1st. You will then have 3rd party only cover on the car.
Hope that helps.

yeah depends on your age, if your under 25, you will probably find that your not covered to drive any other car, even though you are fully comp. alot of insurance companies changed there policys about 4 years ago, to stop that happening. also some limit you to certian engine sizes. i would leave your insurance till it runs out, don't bother telling them you sold it yet, wait the month, or until you get your next car, else buy a £50 car of ebay and change the insurance to it

im so confused. should i just change my insurance to the focus if i get it? or will I completely lose my no claims because i sold the car

Sam, ring your insurer and suspend your cover if there will be any gap between cars. They will reduce your premiums for the time you are without a car and you can then reactivate it and transfer it onto the new car you buy and hence continue earning the NCD.

Regarding DOC, read your docs/ring your insurer for information. Usually you need to be over 25, it cannot be used on a car you own/have just bought and the veh must be insured by its owner.

simon182 you are not correct DO NOT drive a car unless you know for certain you have it written on your policy document that you are covered to drive other cars.

there is a little grey area regarding wether that other car must have insurance on it by someone else as my insurance company said it doesnt but other have said it does.

it is not possible to be the main driver on an insurance policy if you do not own the vehicle so technically once the car was sold the cover was terminated.

Still intrigued to know which company it is which says it doesn't have to be insured, sounds to me more like you spoke to a part-timer who doesnt know his stuff..

Im fully comp with rrmaximum no claims and i cant drive any car, just keep thew insurance going on the car when you sell it,ring your insurance up and insure the focus for 1 day on you policy and if you buy it cancel you old car and carry the new insurance on

Listen to scaggeh and a13ex above. you can suspend your policy whilst you don't have a car and then do a change of vehicle if you buy the focus and you will not lose your no claims. probably a couple of admin charges involved tho - got to make their money somehow!!

your policy documentation will say if you can drive other cars - mine very clearly states on the policy schedule that i can drive vehicles that i do not own, on a third party basis. I have always insisted that anyone coming to test drive cars i have been selling has a temporary cover note showing that they have insurance to drive my car. third party insurance on other cars is a grey area, and if you crash it will only cover third party liabilities not damage to you or the car.

remember if you buy the focus you must have it insured on your policy when you drive it home. as soon as you have bought it the third party other vehicle cover will cease.
