what engine and box to upgrade to

  mk2ph1 rsi 106rallye
hello im new on here and to clios i drive a w-plate clio rsi.
i have just bought another rsi without engine and gearbox was going to brake it but am thinking of fitting a diffrent engine and box and useing it as a track car.,
was thinking of fitting the 2.0l or the renault 5 gtt engine.
or poss the renaut v6 engine.
what options would you do.

  ITB'd MK1
a 2.0l from a 172 would be the easy option for the best power gains and least work. (some will say use an audi/vw 1.8t but there's a lot of fabrication to do)

Think I'd be tempted to use a 1.6 16v (k4m) for cheapness of buying the engine and spend what you've saved over a 2.0 on tuning it

what engine is the standered 1.6 16v rsi engine code?
what cars the k4m engine in?

moted a t-reg 1.8 16v laguna today the engine looks identical to my 1.6 16v is it a board out 1.6 engine?

what power is the 1.8 16v engine?

v6 is massivly heavy and big not realy a great choice IMO. if you want v6 get a vauxhall 2.5/3.0 or rover kv6 or that mazda 2.0 v6

5gtt is an idea but not amazing hp realy depends what you want though its easy enough to use.

I'd be looking at a turbo there loads of hcie out there for turbo engine juts look round any scrad yard. 250hp s usualy easy enough from 2.0 turbo engines you'd need a fair bit to get a Renault 2.0 to that unless you use a turbo f4rt but that expesive and not got the greatest box ever.

1.8 16V is 137hp new there older now so might need a rebuilt.

1.8 16v is similar yep its as if the designer took inspiration from the previous car look at the new 2.0 you can see there evolution.

would pefer to keep it renault powered.
or i could use my let out my smashed corsa.
ive also got my nova xe i could use but want a renault engine.

would an 1.8 16v laguna engine be able to use the 1.6 wireing loom with the 1.8 ecu?

Could use the c20let engine would be an idea have you used the 6 speed box or gone used a simplier 5 speed one?

as for using the 1.8 engine i'm not sure you'd need a remap etc so easier to use the right loom and ecu.
what power do the earlyer 1.8 8v rsis make got 1 of them engien avalible to use.,
110hp I think but again there not that young.

What about the Volvo 1.7 turbo it make 170 hp with just remaps etc megasquirt has been done and sorted engines have proven to make 240hp with cheap enough mods. its a renault type engine realy just with a turbo.

is there a turbo kit out for the rsi 1.6 16v motor?

if i use my let wit will be with the 6speed box fitted with a let.

realy want to use a renault engine.

How about twin engines?

here was a swis or german place who did a superchrager kit or least did development work but it wasn't cheap but that was all.

There has been turbo and supercharger 1.6 16v done though. If you fancy a supercharged one get a mini supercharger there quite cheap and perfect size realy sort the mount bin a/c etc and away you go.

being an older rsi means it doesnt have a uch does it? were they just fitted to mk2 ph2 > ? so its not quite as much work!

fitting another k4m would be simple and there is tuning out there for them, i beleive k-tec are now doing high comp pistons for them, that would be different but cool! but dont know if it would ever be *that* quick

2.0 16v with 182 manifold is probably your best bet to go for 180bhp as standard and 150lb/ft of torque so when stripped would be a complete weapon.

you could get away with using standard front brakes (im assuming rsi uses the 259mm that the newer ones do? ie. williams brakes) but if i was you id go for the 280mm 2.0 16v brakes and suspension (or aftermarket)

It has a sort of UCh its not an issue though.

front brakes are 259 yep

does anyone know what kind of difference the high comp pistons would make from ktec? saw they added them a week or so ago.

if your the kind of guy that gets really power hungry quickly then maybe the volvo 1.7Turbo lump is a good option. Turbo lumps really are always easier and cheaper to tune.

If you want the easiest engine to install that will really be worth it then go for a 172 engine (F4R). There is so so much experience on this forum to do with this conversion.

For ultimate power, it's a VAG 20vT +custom engine mounts+mgmt+shafts etc etc.
