what hose is this (engine)

can anyone identify this hose coming from the aibox?

When checking the oil levels tonight i noticed it was disconnected, i suspect it was when i had some work done on the car 4 weeks ago . Since then the car has felt sluggish (flat spots when accelerating) but no problems with idling. I have re-attched to behind the engine (the only pipe with no hose connected) but will there be any damage to the engine? Is this likley to be the cause of my problems?

I think the crankcase breather pipe, did it have a oily residue in it?
