What made you choose A Clio sport?

  RB 200
My stepdad. Was toying with the idea of selling my VTS, didn't want to but I knew deep down that it wouldn't go on forever. I'd said to myself that I'd never own another French car because of the s**t build quality. He was looking on auto-trader, spotted this and put it on the favourites bar. I deleted it, it re-appeared so I said I'd begrudgingly go and have a look at it. And within the first five seconds of seeing it, I knew that was the one.

got bored of my escort van but needed a car before i sold it,ex boss had a 1.2 16v and owed me some wages so gave me the car, after all my years avoiding french cars,i fell in love with the little clio........ex boss got the ph1 172 cheap and again owed me some money,so we did a deal, then i sold the 1.2....had the 172 for 5 months now and love it more...joined the forum and met some great people so far :D

Cheap tweakable and fun runabout.

Even with brakes suspension and a few bits and bobs I don't think I have broken into 4 figures! And rust isn't a problem like a lot of other cars of its era/ price range!

I don't think much touches them for bang for buck. Unless you have stolen it of course!

I passed in 2005, and I remember looking at the brochures in the Renault showroom & came across the v6 brochure! Thought if I can't have that then I'll have a new 1.2 first!

  R14 CUP
I bought my cup about 4 years ago, kept it for a year, bought a Williams, kept that a year and bought my cup back.

When i first bought it i was looking to buy something to replace my Fiesta Zetec S, i originally wanted a Focus RS, but they was out of my price range. I never drove or had even set foot in a Cliosport before going to look at mine, but i was looking on Pistonheads and there were loads on there, but one took my fancy. I rang the bloke and he'd just took a deposit on it... The sale fell through and i immediately went over to manchester and viewed it.

Thats where my story started...

Loving the stories from some people! It's actually really interesting finding how people came about buying a Clio sport :)

I got the bug whilst at a work experience job when the boss came in one day with a brand new PH1, from that moment I was hooked. I once went to the Renault dealer to get a brochure about them and I spent ages/years wanting one. When my 106 GTI died I then picked up the blue 182 from the main dealer in Sevenoaks and passed over a few k's to finally have my own renaultsport. I know have the BG and I love it

Bought a 106 as a stop gap after my ax gt (a long time ago) had to go, and where I got the 106 from had a few brand new phase 1 172s in and I just loved the look of them. Did some research and decided wanted one but couldn't afford one. A year later I bought a new VTS and regretted it so chopped it in after 18 months for the cup. Will have had it ten years in December.

Missed my XR2 and old simpler cars in general. Didn't want the hassle of modding an 80's hot hatch to have more present day performance so went with a 172 cup. Squeaks and rattles and is pretty light like an old hatch but goes, stops and corners like a modded one. Perfect.

Saw a lovely black 182 on the motorway and thought I'm getting one of those! I went and test drove one and loved it, I waited for the right one to come up for sale and I bought it, it Ended up being an arctic tho.

  172 cup/Escort RST
We bought a 1.2 Grande for my wife and I never really noticed the Clio before. Gotta say I was impressed with the little machine. Then my car (Escort RS Turbo) needed an engine rebuild, so I thought I'd go silly and modify the nuts off it. After it being in the workshop for 2 years, I was tired of walking everywhere and managed to get a W reg Clio 1.6 RSi for a shade under £600 as a little runaround.
After driving the RSi for a while, i actually fell in love with the whole Clio thing and about 2 months ago a friend of a friend was selling a 172. Took it for a test drive and bought it before we got back from the test drive. Didn't realise that it was a cup until I got an insurance quote. Can't see me being without the 172 now, I absolutely love it, and the wife has the RSi now!
Oh, and 4 years on, the Escort is still in the workshop.

Got pushed into buying a Valver 10 years ago when I was a youngster since then all I've wanted was another Clio Sport. Bought my 182 1 month ago it really is so much fun, it makes a fantastic noise too! Didn't pay a huge amount but got a lot of car for the money cruise control is so handy.

  Mk2 172
I used to enjoy driving when i had a Mk3 Astra GSI with a 350bhp turbo engine in it.
Then i sold it, and never really enjoyed driving, having gone through loads of crap cars.

Then someone pulled out in front of me and wrote my commuting car off... Which was an Almera (probably did me a favour). So as i'd got more than i'd paid for the car in the first place I set about finding a replacement.
I was looking at E46 320D's, however i couldn't find one that was right, I saw the clio at a garage I went to test drive a BMW at. When i'd decided not to buy the 320D i had a look at the clio. I thought it would have been a no-go with the wife due to a) having two kids and b) being a hot hatch.
Turns out she was convincing me when she saw it, as for the money it really couldn't be beat

So i took it for a test drive down a road i know.

and it's been a looong time since i enjoyed going for a drive, but the thing was a f**king revelation. Driving was actually fun again! I'd forgotten what that felt like.

So i drove back to the garage with a massive smile on my face and bought it.

now have a shopping list of mods, which has started with a Hunter 4 wheel alignment and some Pilot sport 3's.

  182 Cup
I chose a Clio sport on the basis that magazines and car articles are always waxing lyrical about their performance. Seeing a RB 182 cup for sale at £2150 was a no-brainer. Besides, years of driving 1.2 road-slugs had only whetted my appetite for more performance anyway

  clio 182 trophy
Obviously, less quick than a Cup/172/182/.Trophy

But fun - I think it exceeds. Of course, only on sunny days.

I wouldnt have one as my only car, thats for sure. Whereas a Clio makes quite a good daily due to MPG

Like the clio they are not about straight line I know. They are worshiped on PH so always thought they must be fun.

  Clio 1.6 SI phase 1
Needed a cheap car sharpish when my Citroen zxtd decided to explode. My Clio was for sale round the corner from where i live and cheap.

  Megane R26
Had plenty of 306 Rallyes, 106 Rallyes and recently sold my Jenvey ITB'd Gti in favour of a slightly more refined 172 Cup. Averaging 37.4 mpg and girlfriend thinks it's cute.
Good all around car but I find you have to go twice the speed to have fun compared to most other hot hatches I've had. Also not as quick as I was hoping for, bit of a set back from my Gti bit makes up for it in other ways. Can't fault it as a weekend toy.

  2002 clio 172
Bought a 1.2 dynamique cos it was the only car at the car place that my gf would have been able to get on the drive! Used to call it the egg and always loved the look of "super eggs". Had 3 grand to buy a car and was gonna go for a focus or something boring then it dawned on me. Super egg. Read reviews/checked insurance/fuel consumption etc and my mind was made up. Every single one of my mates told me I was making a mistake cos they're unreliable but I've owned it two years and it's not broken down yet. Fair enough I've spent a fair bit on belts, sensors etc etc but I love it. And if I drive it well I don't spend any more on fuel than I did in the 1.2 plus insurance is 300 ish quid.

  Renault Clio182 bean
Price was the first factor, the balance of decent power and fuel economy seemed very decent, still glad I chose it ;)

I was revising for my final exams at Uni.. Felt like I needed a treat.. Browsed autotrader for Fiesta ST's.. Went to view a couple.. Wasn't that impressed for the price.. Went home one weekend.. Had a quick look at 1*2's.. Found one round the corner from my mams house.. Viewed it, test drove it, bought it, hate the colour but love driving her.
