What makes an exhaust POP>?

i have a decat, and almost straight through pipe. im assuming it must be either the way the baffel works or the design of the pipe??

Yeh blueflame. Theres no centre box on blueflames so its straightthrough all the way to the backboxes. Only pops for the first 5 mins after start up though. When revving.

You'l need a remap, RSTuner would be a good idea as you could request henk to tailor you a map for it to fuel on deaccelaration/overrun whatever you want to call it.

Cos it Sounds Braaap ..... Mine Pop's Loads and loud when Cold and also does the Occasional Burble and Pop when coming down the Rev Range..... I like it

you actually want the fuel shut off on overun, and alter the ignition timing on overun.

throwing fuel down it does nothing but cool the egt's and the exhaust is nowhere near hot enough to begin with to ignite fuel.

as said, exhuasts pop due to unburnt fuel in the exhaust. You need to be running rich or have a map which fuels on run down.
Try the tesco 100ron, that might pop a bit

Higher RON Fuels definitely increase the Popping though, I've now been through quite a few tanks of V-Power and now got Dirty Tesco 99 stuff in my car and it has defintely been popping more than when run on Basic Unleaded

Things happen differently when you actually fit your 182 manifold.......

unburnt air doesnt burn by itself though.

Lean mixtures burn slower, so on overrun the mixture is still burning as the ex valve opens.

However this is rare on modern cars which just buzz with overrun as they run a total fuel cut off on overrun.

Can you fit a 182 manifold onto a 172, are they different? Any gains etc?

mine pops and bangs like a mofo. 172, Ktec stealth, 182 manifold, de-cat.... oh and bodies, cams, pistons etc etc.

Think i have just seen your white clio up at GDI this morning !
Was having my sports cat sorted.

Went out for a drive after work last night around 11.30pm and it felt awesome alot more ear friendly then a decat. Defo get some good pops and burbles on overrun now !
