what oil for 16v ...

Im gonna change the oil soon so what oil is best for my clio16v 1995...?

i think im using castrol gtx magnatec at the mo , something like 10 w40 or 15 w40...

i wouldnt advise using Magnatec, been fair few people on here whose engines its made very noisy.....includin mine....

  Was a Clio 1.8 16v

TOO thick causing sticky and noisier valves IMO, but Mobil 1 is thin for a 15w50 and is deffinetly the best oil for a 16v engine.

Mobil 1 Motorsport is a good oil, though i found it sh*te for cold starts in winter, however, you do have a 16v which will run hotter than my RT, but i still dont reckon its a good winter oil

personally id go for Silkolene - http://www.a-pp.comwww.a-pp.com

Silkolene comes in 5L bottles which is very handy for the price, you only need 1 x 5L bottle, even for a 16v....

the Pro S / Pro R is the one to go for....

either that or the 10W-50 mate, an thats for 5L though mate.......not the usual 4L

the 10W-50 should be better for cold starts but will obviously have slightly more additives, however in a fully synthetic that really isnt a problem.....

hmm i was told to use 10 w40 semi synthetic by my local garage who did the last oil change, they used some total 10 w40 semi synthetic...

  Skoda Fabia vRS

they do a 10W-40 semi mate if thats what you want, but why have a semi when you can have something thats more advanced

your garage would have advised you this because most synthetic oils are 0W-40.......which its argued is too thin for older cars.....

the Silkolene on that site, the Pro S/Pro R comes in 10W-50 and 15W-50......both are not thin

(though the thinness is another argument which has been discussed before !)

  Skoda Fabia vRS

no problem, Silkolene is good stuff, at first it appears to be slightly expensive but then if you look your gettin another litre for your money

if you want whatever you can go an buy mate, get Mobil 1 Motorsport, the new stuff

however you might find its not too good in the winter for starts, though lots of people dont have a problem with it so im sure you will be fine, if you do, then you can add some Mobil 1 0W-40 to it.....

i used it all winter, no problems at all. great pressure and no tappet noises, maybe your engine aint strong enough to use big boy oil brun ;).

mikey, how can a 15w50 be thin for a 15w50?

sh*t, you can buy 205ltr drums for over a grand at that site! lol

I run millers semi sin 10w40 in my valve and 1400 runs sweet as a nut. £14 for 5 litres cant be bad. I change it every 5k as well. Dont see the point in spending £30 + on oil total waste of money.
