10-40 is recommended. Don't use magnatec its pants!
Eihtert can be used.
10-40 can only be used down to -15 degrees and Renault normally use 5-40 thats why 5-40 is recomended I've never bothered with 5-40.

Just to echo the magatec comment its shite don't use it, makes my car sound like a bag of spanners on idle.
Going to have a few hundred miles out of it and i'm changing it for some 5w-40.

Renault usually put in 10w40 semi synthetic, even in 172/182's, unless you ask otherwise.

If you want to go for this, get down yr nearest Shell garage and put some Helix Plus in.

Its good value and the car will run nice and smooth. About £25 ish for 5 litres.

I have a mkiii 2003 172 and have just loaded it with Shell Helix Ultra. Thats a 5w40 grade fully synthetic. £45 from Shell - you can get it for about £30 from Nigel at Lubrication Limited at Leicester....may be way out for you though?

Go for the Helix plus, its more than up to the job for your car, and go and have a few beers with the saving from not buying the Ultra!!!
