What old fast car for under 10k

  BMW 320d Sport

Just an idea Ive got, maybe some time in the future spend between a few grand on a fast classic...must be genuinely fast and a good drive though, and has to be RWD

Porsche 911 (70s) or a 944 S2

Lancia Delta Integrale

Audi Quattro

Or an old Scooby STI import

There was a 2WD Saff with 51k on the Clock for-sale near me (£5k) when I bought the Clio - I was tempeted but had decided on the Clio.

  CTR EK9 turbo

mistubishi stario turbo 2.6 - slow as standard but with decat and a bigger turbo an easy 300 bhp is achieveable and mid to low 12s are an easy target if you spend about a grand on them. Look cool/retro i reckon and theres a few sites about them. RWD and fairly light weight, not to mention you drive them on LFS!!! hehe

  Was a Clio 1.8 16v

Id personally get a 300zx twin turbo; its got 300bhp going through rear wheels as standard & looks stunning, will keep with Scoobies & r rare.

The Cossie is more of a classic car though & the early Shaffs were RWD, the later 1s had 4WD.

  Renault Laguna Coupe

If you buy a 911 it will be a sh*tter - believe me I had one. 944 would be a better bet but the NA cars are not that quick and the turbos are costly to get right. If its for trackdays why not look at a Caterham or Westfield?

Shaffs look better IMO, although they r both bad boys!

Adi; has to be RWD apparently, but i REALLY like the Saff 4x4s too.

  Lionel Richie

What about an old skool wide arch BMW M3 quad (maybe 6??? i think the old ones are 4cly) 52mm throttle bodies as std!!!!

Mk2 Escort RS2000 or the 3Ltr Capri for that Professionals feeling!

If you have 10K and can be bothered the Cossie way is a good one to follow. Buy a crap example and spend the rest of the money re-building it to former glory.

A mate of mine has just done this with an old RS1600i, car cost 1K, spent 5K on it and it is now absolutely stunning! Plus he has an affinity with the car cos he "made" it look as good as it does (which strangely enough is fairly standard, just fecking clean at the same time)

Arent the intergrales all 4wd? If not they are a hardwork buy, dodgy electrics and complicated repairs (parts are hard)

The Porches are a good idea but, well, a bit lifeless for an old car, they have no specific cult following, (as with your Cossies or Lancias etc) Though each to their own. Have you seen the interior of an old 911, think Beetle without the class and your nearly there

Yeah I know the others are 4wd, really what I mean is I dont want FWD. I want something with a bit of class -hence any form of Sierra is instantly out of the frame. I dont want a sales reps car. To me a Sapphire is one step up from a Vauxhall Belmont, Cossie or not! Tom is that the 73 Carrera RS at the front of the picture? That is exactly the sort of thing Im after. Just too much money but surely I can pick up a 70s 911 sh*tter and do it up. Or alternatively blow 10k on hot rodding the 66 Beetle that weve already got?

The 944 Turbo does sound tempting and the Datsun is a quality choice. I wanna stay away from things like the Starion etc that only have tuneability and possible straight line speed in their favour. The old Bimmer M3 would be nice or an old Escort...

Dont even like cabriolets full stop Mike, hence I would never even consider a Caterham or Westfield, has to be an everyday road car that just happens to be a sports car as well.

911 it is then - I know youre pretty handy with the Snap-Ons so you may do alright if you can find a good one. I only had mine for a few months (couldnt really drive well enough to enjoy it) and it was always in the workshop.

Nick I am like you and dont like cabrios. We have had a couple and I rarely got the top down when on my own as it felt like "posing" and I am not a poser. Some people have a bit of a smug look when driving with their hoods down on sunny days, a bit like the smug looks you see on the faces of some MINI drivers! (Cooper-S Boy probably being the one exception)!! ;)

Thats one of the best colours to have them in!

These cars are awesome. A guy I used to work with had one. LHD only, but the acceleration was something else. His was standard and in red, but there was a fella he knew had a yellow, sorry gallia, one with 700bhp!! Needless to say it when like stink.

I was thinking along the same lines as you Nick, well it was either, keep the Clio and buy something fast out of the factory - scooby, supra etc.Theres a nice Martini Intergrale i see around Liverpool sometimes, very nice would love one. I can afford the car, not the insurance though, (probably not the running costs either) so ill have to see how the GTT project goes.

That 240Z is quality motoring. I assume the bottom picture has got a V8 and a roots-blower on it which is a bit much but that black one is mint. And that Lancia looks the nuts in yellow. Its those crazy boxy arches that get me every time. I cant see one of those Deltas without having to stop and walk all the way around it to check out the breeze block styling! ANy more pictures/ideas?

So what was wrong with your 911 Mike, what made you get rid of it in the end?
