What polish and wax/sealent should I use?

  Liquid Yellow 197 F1
I was given a Meguiars G220 Dual action polisher for Christmas. I've never really considered using a polishing machine as i know you can end up doing more damage then good to paint work, so i'm what i should be looking for to start out with?

I have 2 applicator pads for it which are:
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polis...fx-3-final-finish-polishing-pad/prod_430.html
and
http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polis...inal-gloss-seal-and-protect-pad/prod_617.html

Could anyone recommend me some polish, sealant and waxes to try, also if i should try any other pads.

1 other thing I'm not sure on is how should I clean the pads?

Cheers Luke

Clean them under in the sink, spray some APC on it (or dishwashing liquid will do). Rub it in with your thumbs and wash them out with hot water. Keep repeating this untill the pads are clean and the water that comes out if also transparent again. When you find your pads being 'sucked' full with polish during polishing your car, also do as above and dry the pad by letting it rotate on your polisher. Do this in a bucket, so when it flies off it wont get dirty by touching the ground.

As for polish, there is a lot you can go for. Since the renault paint isnt that hard you can start with Poorboys SSR1 and SSR2. Im not familiar with the Sonus pads colours, if you go with Lake Country i'd say buy an orange, white, light green and black pad. Look them up on polishedbliss or any other website and compare them with Sonus if you want to use theirs.

As for a wax, on a yellow car i'd say go for one of the colour charged Dodo Juice waxes (Banana Armour) and use ClearKote Red Moose Glaze beforehand to get that really warm, deep glow.

JD or others might recommand you different products though, doesn't mean one or the other is bad or good, personal prefferance plays a big part in this as well.

The Sonus pads hold up well and last for ages. Longer than most other pads I've found. Nothing better for a starter kit IMO.

Martijn is spot on - I would advise either the 3M range or the Menzerna range of polishes, purely based on personal preference. I find they break down well and they have a superb range.

For a Clio, with a DAS, I would suggest 85re and if that doesn't have the desired effect, step it up to 203s or 3.02IP.

Cheers guys, will have a look at it all and give it a go when the weather gets a bit better. Any advice on which websites to buy from or who to go to on here?

Polished Bliss, I4Detailing and CleanYourCar are my websites of choice. Sometimes Monza as they are on eBay and have very quick postage.

As Todd mentioned, a percentage discount is available from the latter two. However, I4D is 7.5%, CleanYourCar is less, but with a points system (points per £££ you spend gives you money off next time around).

I'm struggling to find everything under one roof so to say.

Clean your car has Menzerna 85RD is this much different to 85RE? Clearkote Red Moose glaze, and Dodo Juice Banana Armour

I4detailing has Menzerna 85RE 5, but they only have Dodo Juice Lime Prime as a glaze, and Dodo Juice Banana Armour wax.

I would rather place 1 order so i don't have to fork out on postage twice so which should i go for?

You will not notice a massive difference between the two polishes.

Lime prime isn't a glaze really, it's a pre wax cleaner with a small amount of cut. Buy from CleanYourCar if you want the red moose.

Cheers JD I had a feeling you would say that but i didn't want to buy the wrong polish and do more damage then good.

I've just noticed that I4detailing are doing a deal on dodo juice waxes so is there a glaze you would recommend from them?
