what rpm to chane gear,

sometime i just floor it to the red ( my clio doesnt actually have a redline, whys that?)

but siomtimes when i change gear aroung the 5500/6000 mark i can feel it really push,

whats the best revs to change for best torque?

(there will nbever be that much torque as its a 1.2:dapprove: soon to be a 172 though, :D )

Think max torque on a 1.2 is about 5500rpm. You don't have redline as the car works out the red line for you depending on the engine temperature. Think the 172/182's have got it just for sporty look, but my 182 hits the limiter just as |I creep into the first redline at 7250rpm!

ok, so am i bestr changing gear @ 5500?

also when i go to change gear it revs a little bit even if my foot is nowere near the accelerator, (only does this if im in high revs)

depends what you want?

performance = 'just' before power dies, so approx. so 500-1000 before red-line

economy = 'just' at point that it will take next gear with a relaxed throttle (not straining) - say 35 into 4th, 45/50 into top

yeah because there is no strain on the engine, thats normal.

no point in redline'n yer car, best to change just before 6k.

ok cheers people,

im wat maximum pulling power, when i redline it just befor it gets to the redlin it just loeses so much power.

Yeah usually 1000rpm after is where you have peaked on the torque curve. Still, its fun to occasionally redline it!!

Yeah, its a major floor with all the 1.2's...... They're a 1.2

You need to get a RR printout of you car to work out the optimum rpm to chnage gear it also depends on the gear your in for me I chnage from 1'st to second at 4.4k even though power drops off as second pulls the rpm down loads then chnage up at 4.2k in 2nd and third and 4k in 4th.
