What the hell is wrong with my car??

Driving to work earlier it randomly started to sound like it had a massive misfire ie running on 3 cylinders. got to work, opened the bonnet and pulled the coil wires off one by one and the revs dropped as normal indicating its on 4. When for a quick drive and it seems to rev right but feels very restricted and it makes the worst noise in the world! The emission light flashes too if you go over about2500rpm but only when driving. If i rev it sitting still it doesnt come on.
Any ideas??

Got two theorys,
Cambelt slipped a tooth making it sound as if its missing and making it hesitate OR i fitted my prospeed last week and ive spannered the CAT somehow.....

I'd but decient money on you having hit your lambeda sensor or the wiring to it and disconnected it.

take it to adrian wilson in leek, he has a clip machine maybe a good start to hook it upto that for 20 quid.

I cant see that making it sound like a bag of balls though. I had to have a new one about a month into wning the car where the emissions light was lit up all the time but it made no noticeable difference to the car.... Ill still check it though, do you sugest unplugging it and plug it back in gain if all looks good??


Middo, its booked into a garage to be plugged in monday but if its something i can fix ill do it! hate not having a car!

Right, lambda is fine but decided to check the plugs whilst someone help the revs at 3ish and the middle to HT plugs make no difference when i unplugged them so going to swap them about tommorrow and see waht i need, either HT's or plugs.

check the ht's my track valver did a similar thing, turned out to be a ht lead earthing out becasue the rubber case had split.

They arent leads though, they are like a push in coil. They have 4 separate coils instead of one and four leads if you get me.....

Did you put a decat on?

Sounds like standard cat could of collapsed.

No, was going to but need to cut the downpipe so waiting to get a spare cat. Since finding the two coils dont work at 3kish im convinced its them. get a couple from the scrapper tomorrow and test them!

change the coils and take it from there. sounds similar to the problem i had.

This was the problem with my 182 I changed the leads and plugs as was fine after that, check your plugs for corrosion mine were, 24k.....

Just chamged the two centrecoils and plugs and its still the same, if i run the car i can take the two centre coil connectors off completely and it makes no difference at all so it must only be running on the two outer cylinders.....
Any ideas??

If youre changing the downpipe/cat, you dont need to cut anything, you need to drop the rear of the subframe an inch or so, just to get the front flange in. its simple enough.

Mine has a flexipipe attatched to the manifold so i need to get a spare downpipe and cut the mounting off and reweld it to the decat!
Fixed the misfire, swapped coils round and changed all the plugs and it works, crazy renaults. Still very hesitant but the emissions light is on permanen now so get it plugged in see what it comes up with.......

Sounds exactly like what happened to my clio a while back. The emissions light came on, and as it turns out 2 of my cylinders weren't firing, but I was getting the problem below 2500 revs. I had to drive it back from Clacton to London on two cylinders. Got a completely new coil pack and it fixed it.

Sorted it now, just hope that the hesitation will go with the emission light though.....
