What to buy?

Ok so this is only my second post. Have been researching the 172's and i looked at three over the weekend, 2 cups and 1 black 172 all at dealers (not renault). The cups were £5250 (74k miles scuffs and scrapes) and £4999 (54k miles with stone chips and poor alloys). The black 172 was 52 plate in really nice condition for £5.5k....but turns out it has been sold. and also i really prefer the interior of the normal 172 and im no F1 driver so not all that fussed about the extras of the cup. Is it really worth hunting down a decent cup considering i only really have around £5k to spend?
Also has anybody driven the 206 gti 180 as that is my other option although i am much more in favour of the clio but its still an option.

love the look of the pug180 and prefer the seats to that of the 172 but whilst people say they're gutless in the midrange over on pgoc theres some seriously rapid ones - so nothing a bit of tuning cant sort.

if you dont specifically want a cup i would just look round for a good 172. for 5k and a bit of patience you should be able to find a minter in the private ads.

thanks for the reply. thats what i was thinking. Buy private with full service history. Im not really after a cup, i only saw them because they were local. I think i would much prefer a ph2 in black.

i had a ph2 in blakc - was a lovely car.

id just keep searching - you will find the right car but dont rush into anything
