What to do with my moneys?

  G51 BEN
at some point next year i shall be claiming a couple of thousand in compensation... about 2 - 2.5k.
Just wondering whether i should sell up on the 1.2 and throw it into a low mileage 182?
I know the insurance will pull my pants down and show me who the daddy is, but thats what i could use the moneys for?
and just buy the car with my own money - after all they are cheap for what they are.

thoughts and rants please?
i was thinking either this, or keep the moneys and do something else productive but right now i cant think what...

I don't think it's worth paying alot for a Clio.

If you had a TVR or something special then maybe paying abit more would be worth it. But you see no return on spending alot on insurance IMO.

save it until insurance isnt silly. As good as a 182 is..i would not pay silly insurance for one.

Insurance might not be that bad next yr when you get it so just save until insurance is ok. Or use that money to do a lifetime experiance such as travelling

well thats what i mean.... if i get one when im 20 in a couple of months time, clear away the shitty insurance price. job done for a year. save an extra £100 pounds a month over that year, then the year after when im 21 with hopefully 2 years NCB, plus about £1000 saved up for insurance, it wont be that bad surely???

Put it in an ISA for when you buy a house...if you don't already own one.

Put it away for a rainy day lol like fuk. do wat you want with it m8 but don't save it your young live life a bit and buy the clio if thas wat you wana do

but thats boringggggg :p

Alot of young people think saving is boring, being in college I see everyone around me can't afford to do this and that because they don't have any money.

I personally see it as I'm young, I have no expenses except buying 2 pints of milk to have with my lunch and my car. I put 80% of my money away to get as much behind me to make more money when I leave college. As I know the older I get the more I will have to spend.

Everyone seems to have more want than need when young.

But if your happy doing that then that's fine but why live a half life you never know what's round the corner I live for now

Exactly mate!

Why bother?!

But then later on you realise 'why bother?' and regret spending your money on sh*t instead of saving it.

insurance might be a b**ch even at 21 mate. Preston isn't the best for insurance grades. see how much they are to get insured on now. Not sure how much you would get a 182 for in a year though. Probably still be paying 4-5k for one though. Tax is £215 for the year, mot etc. Petrol you'll get around 40mpg tops. Not too bad to run so long as nothing goes wrong with it :) Love it to bits !!!

There is a balance; you are lucky enough to have found it.

People twice your age will not balance spending and saving, people half your age will (well, not in your 17 y/o case lol).

When you are younger, you have more freedom. Get it done, buy the 182 and spend on insurance.

If you're into cars (you're on a car forum so I assume you are) then imo get the clio.

I've tried the "put it in the bank/go on a nice holiday/get wasted every day/buy a sex toy" with the money and as fun as all that was I still love the thought of waking up and driving a car that I enjoy.

Do it! We've got years to worry about important stuff.

Yes, buy a 182 if thats what you want, but for all the comments about, your young, spend all your money and have fun now, pfft, you need to start saving some time otherwise you will be paying off a mortgage late into your 60's/70's, and i don't think many people really wanna be doing that, its not sensible.

yes yes yes i know. luckily for me i have a stable job in the police, and have no plans for moving out young. plus i didnt go to uni so i have no debts like the majority of my mates... and my car is what i love - so i think i may go for a clio, and then i will have years ahead of me to save up and get ready for a house :)

  2 girls, 172 cup
i had the same thing in the summer, £2.5k compen,

it paid for just over half my 172 cup. when i come to buy a house i'm selling it to top up the deposit. i know i'll lose money but i was willing to do it so that i could drive something nice before i had to get something boring.

any help?

the cup will be worth, say £2k by then... hardly a massive contribution to a house deposit by the time you've bought a cheaper car to replace it.

Or spend now, save a bit, spend later!

Why live preparing for tomorrow, you could get hit by a bus.

Love a 19 y/o RB 182 Owner :)

You wouldnt regret it! You will still have money to spend aswell!

I'm not jewish about money and say No I shall not spend that!

I have it piled up, but if I want something I'll just buy it. I just try and keep it from seeping away in little dribbles as much as. I've never had much of a 'want' factor when I go into shops. I can walk around all day and not buy anything simply because I'm just no interested, I don't get the impulse.

If I get hit by a bus, all my stuff will find a nice new home in a charity somewhere.

yeah but as soon as you are in a house thats it you can do what you want. There is no point being the 30 year old at home with mummy and daddy just coz you spent all your money on nice cars.

The lads 19 FFS let him have at least a little fun before before he gets lumbered with a mortgage!

Your probo on similar money to me being in the 5-0 and it only took me 6-7 months to save a deposit for my house, so wouldnt worry to much.

FFS that's a bit mental steve! It's going to take us two years and that's with a starting amount of £2,500! :dapprove:

Do it mate! Im planning on doing the same thing, saving most of my money each month for a clio 172 in july/august (will have one years NCB). Atleast then you will have something to show for that compensation your getting.

If i do get a clio RS i plan on never getting rid of it, maybe after a couple of years i will get a different car but i wont sell the clio. Think about it, in 15 years time it will be a classic almost lol and as cool as the renault 5 :)

Oh and 1st post :D
