What to look for when buying a 182?

Hello,

Hopefully I'll p/xing my Dynamique in for a 182 sometime soon and was wondering if any of you can give me some pointers in what I need to look out for / ask?

I think an obvious thing is to check the catch under the bonnet? The car will also be coming with an HPI certificate and 1 years warranty.

Seriously. Just the obvious, make sure its straight etc. Bonnet catch is NOTHING to worry about. Check it has window etchings, alarm and alloy wheel locking nuts.... if it doesnt its an import (few about) Service due at 32k etc

I'd never heard of the bonnet catch problem until it was highlighted on watchdog .

I think the people who have or have had any problems with the catch are the kind of people who never open their bonnet to do regular checks i.e screenwash , oil , etc ..... i would say most people on here probably open their bonnets on a pretty regular basis thats why they never encountered any problems .

Seriously though, I do not believe the bonnet catch will be putting off any potential sale of 172/182 or anyother Mk2 ph2. The current downturn in sales is probably due to the Mk3 release and the subsequent 197 and all it's variants that followed.

Seriously? I wasn't aware of any imports? What alarm will it have? Did they come as standard on the Sport models because I'm sure my Dynamique doesn't have one?

Also where would the car be imported from?

Yes, there are imports about. Mine is one.

As Gaz said, etchings, alarm and locking nuts are the tell tail signs.

It wont have an alarm, just an immobiliser and you can tell as it wont have the ultrasonics at the top of the pillers inside.

But ive now got a bad a$$ alarm inlcuding motion sensor so no one start thinking you can nick my car lol.

Oh, and yes they are standard on the sport range but not the others (unless its an initial etc...)

Don't worry about buying an import mate . I'm on my second import . They are built in the same factory as cars that were intended for the UK and they are right hand drive . The standard renault alarms aren't that good from what i've read on here and only have an 18 month warranty on them . I have a Toad cat alarm fitted with a lifetime warranty . Bought some genuine locking wheel nuts for a tenner off ebay .

Other than that its the same car , same spec so dont worry about buying an import .

Just remember to try your best to get a splitter in the deal if it doesnt have one (alot dont) They are like gold dust unless your pockets are full of dosh.

In the dealership I went to recently they had the aformentioned Titanium, a Black Gold and a Petrol Blue (although the garage had Orion Blue in the window). All 3 had splitters. A silver 172 there did not.

I can second that... mine goes off all the bleeding time :dapprove:

However when it comes to the 18 month warranty, my car has been registered 2 years this June but I'd love to see them wriggle out of sorting out the fact the alarm never stops going off because it's well documented they're set up with the ultransonics far too sensitive, therefore it's a manufacturing / design defect.

So I wouldn't worry too much about the Renault alarm only having an 18 month warranty as they don't tend to actually break as far as I know, they're just s***e from the word go due to being poorly designed and need a wiring (polarity of the ultrasonic sensors) mod to make them behave a bit more sensibly.

yes they are, its pathetic becuase this boy i used to work with has a clio grande and hes always warning me about my catch... Hes mums also stopped him driving it for about a month now whilst she gets somebody to "weld" an extra peice onto the catch :S And when you tell them to stop being weridos about it they get all angry and tell you you know nothing lmao! i really hate people that over react

Yep swop the outputs from the sesnors round and they reduce in sensitivity by loads.
