Wheel bearing noise, replaced wheel bearing - still there

  Oil Burner
My car has been suffering a droan noise when im driving, the droan is particularly bad around r/h corners. Leading me to believe it was a knackered Front Left wheel bearing (it also sounds like this is where its coming from when driving)

However I had the bearing replaced last week. The noise has not changed. The mechanic went for a test drive with me and says its deff a wheel bearing noise but must be the righthand side.

Can wheel bearings sound worse when they have the weight off them?

If not what else could it be?

This probably won't help, but I recently thought my rear drivers side bearing had gone. Turned out my rear spring had snapped, it was causing a very rumbly noise whilst driving.

I replaced both springs, and shocks (rear drivers side shock had gone too so basically NO suspension on that wheel!) and expected the noise to still be present but it had gone!

Maybe take a look at your front springs??? I'm no mechanic but thought I'd share my experience, maybe it will help!

Cheers for the Reply Mister.

I will take a look, but be fairly disappointed if my road springs have gone after 3 months, so i'm pretty confident that it wont be this.

Checked the rears? Give them a spin when jacked up? One may sound a bit corse, also check for play, if thats OK, then look at the rear tyres whilst giving them a spin. I had one that had gone out of shape (quite common on Clios) Made a wheel bearing noise on mine at speed!

driveshaft maybe, more noise when you turn in 1 direction. How did you check that the wheel bearing had gone?

The mechanic that did the work had the car up on a lift and checked all the wheels, the only one making a noise was the front nearside (the same one i suspected was knackered from the noise in r/h corners)

The noise only presents above about 40mph and there is a definite change in volume in r/h corners.

I will check the rears too.

One of my theories was that the mechanic put the wheel bearing in the other wheel, then i complain the noise is still there. He then diagnoses it as the other side, i then pay up, he actually fixes the real problem and he has got an extra hours work out of a small job..... but this is with my suspicious hat on. I have used the garage before and they have always been good.

check the bearing, jack up car hold your hand on the spring and spin the wheel, if you can feel vibrations in the spring its that one. if your not sure (I never am) do another side and see the difference (unless they both screwed)
