wheel bearing question

ok. ive had a wheel bearing going on the rear of me 16v now for the last 2 months. thing is it doesnt seem to be getting noticeably worse although i have eased off on cornering speeds when i can. when ive got the cash im replacing the rear discs and bearings in one go but i aint got the £100 i need. how can you tell when they def need changing as dont want to do any damage.

cheers mike
