Wheel Bearing!!!

As i was saying, just jacked the car up and for sure my rear offside wheel bearing is making an nasty noise! Thought something was wrong on Sunday and just got round checking it out.

Its a 2001 model. Anyone else had to replace this part after only 29000miles? Is this something that just happens or could there be something wrong? All the other wheel bearings are fine.

Thanks for any comments.

Putting bigger wheels on will put more stress on the bearing. Get it changed. mine used to go quite often in my old 5

Its booked in for Thursday morning. Does anyone know how long this will take and a rough estimate of cost?

Renault wanted £100 for mine not incl parts. Shopped around, brought the bearing myself for £16 and payed £42 in labour and vat to get it fitted.

Passenger side front in a mk1, prices will be similar i expect tho

on my mrk 1 i just replaced both rear ones, cost 53 quid for the pair i think, took me a while to get the drums off as theyh were on tight, found out the brake cylinder was leaking so had to replace that and a brake line also, so new shoes and springs etc, but excluding the brake bits, it cost me the price of the bearings and a garage pulled the old bearings out and pushed the new ones in useing a propper tool for free.

so its ALOT cheaper to do it your self, if a garage charges per hour and then they have a hassle like i did getting rear hubs off etc, then ur price will go up loads...
