Wheel Bearings going?

  330 Ci
Started to get a drone from what sounds like the rear RHS of my car when cornering left at speed (it doesnt do it when in a straight line or turning right)... the drone gets louder the faster i go, with it usually becoming audible around 40mph

I had 3 people in the car over the weekend and the droning then occured when driving in a straight line (presumably because what ever it is thats making the noise is under load).

I've jacked the car up and tried to wiggle both the rear wheels to feel for play but they feel fine, so i'm now alittle confused!.. surely if it was a wheel bearing then i'd be able to feel movement?

:S

I had the same with myne over 30mph and it was really bad but myne was doing it in a straight line, when the car was jacked up there was no play but when spinning the wheel by hand it stoped after one turn or so i replaced the bearing and spun it by hand and it spun a few times and the noise dissapeared when driving, iirc i payed £110 for new rear discs with abs ring and bearing from auto-nation :)

not necessarily. If you can definitely hear something from the right, then try to identify whether it's front or rear and get it changed.
Concequences of leaving a dodgy bearing vary from: just noise>siezed bearing>loosing a wheel at speed.

Sometimes you can wiggle them, sometimes they are just noisy.

They normally make the noise when a load is put on them and as you say no play. Bite bullet and change both rears as they normally come with brake discs attached to them.

THIS doesnt sound fun... the sounds coming from the right rear when cornering (so when under load)

I need new rear pads anyway, so for what its worth it sounds like i might as well buy one of the rear disc/pad/bearing/abs ring kits from NW Performance (£130 with OE pads) and have done

thanks for the advice guys! (confirmed what i'd suspected)

You did say "1 side", £130 for both is about the going rate. Don't forget to recover the the washer/spacer on the inside of the hub and remember which way round it goes.

Reading fail tbh..;)

all keyboard warrioring aside - thanks for the advice, i'll make sure i remember which way the washer/spacer comes off :)
