Wheel bearings on a 172 Cup...talk to me.

I have a slight whine around 25-35mph that is there when I dip the clutch. I'm pretty sure it's a wheel bearing but not sure which. I'll be jacking it up on Saturday to find out.

I did one or two years ago on my XR3i but what are they like to do on a 172?

When they start to go there’s usually a light humming noise to start with and I think that’s where I’m at. I’ve not noticed it at motorway speeds but there’s a lot of other noise happening at 60-70mph. When driving gently up to 30-35mph it’s noticeable.

I think the noise is coming from the n/s/r so if so maybe it’s time to do the discs on both sides (I was thinking of this last week coincidentally) as I’ve read that the bearing come ready fitted in the disc.

You can buy the bearings as well though if discs are fine. Most garages would press it in for you for a drink I’d imagine.

No agreed. New disc is easier option but seem to remember prices have jumped recently? But then not bought any Clio parts for a while.

This car of mine did about 1500 miles in about 11 years before I bought it last year. Now that it's my daily it seems that 11 years of almost no maintenance has caught up on it.....but I still love it. Aww.

Sat there doing nothing, things seize up and as soon as you use them it starts to show.

Like collectors of supercars, hardly any mileage on them. As soon as they start them up the engine starts leaking as seals/gaskets dry up and they piss oil.

I've just jacked it up and checked the wheels. Tyres are all normal and rocking all the wheels top to bottom and side to side I can feel no loose play at all. When spinning the rears the o/s rotates fairly freely and the n/s less so. They don't spin easily and continuously and there is the usual sound of the brake pads touching the discs a little. Having typed that I wouldn't say there's a lot of resistance to spinning them either. Would you opt to change them?

I could also be that bloody exhaust!!!

Anyway, I off to ruin a good walk on the local course.
