wheel knocking noise

  307 hdi (powered by derv)
I went on track today at fcs and managed to spin off onto the grass. It now makes a knocking noise from the front left wheel area and i can hear it and feel it through the steering wheel. Any ideas?

Just trashed my eagle f1 giving it some on the right handers. Only brought the tyre last weekend.

mine did this but i didnt hit anything put new mounts on etc in the end it was balancing and the tracking

  Shhh
Knocking when, str8, turning, what speeds, what about braking.?

Can swap your spare onto the car to rule out the wheel.

Try reversing with full lock on etc, see how it performs and report back to us when and where it makes the noise.

knocking when straight at low speed and then can feel it again at 70+ through the steering wheel.
I will put my spare on tomoz and check over the car.
When i first did it there was a scweeling noise when turning but that stopped. and then noticed knocking.

  Shhh
Jack car up, take wheel off and have a good look in the area. Best of checking yourself first then if you can, get some pictures up of the area. Whilst the wheel is off, push everything in the area trying to re-create the knocking.

Scweeling noise could be from the brake pads, from the squeel plates. Mine were squeeling in reverse, so i took the metal plates out the callipers.

I have swapped the wheels round and it is still knoking in that front left area. I have gave everything i could see a shake and pull such as driveshaft, shock, hub etc etc and there is still a knocking when driving. Seeems a little worse when turning.

looking under the car there is no scuffs or marks from the car bottoming out.

This is what happend http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=144223

Anyway back to my knocking. Is is worse when going over bumps and rough road. Could it be suspension related?

Anyone shed any light?

Think about it, wheel?? maybe, change and check it. Track rod end, drive shaft, bottom ball joint, suspension arm, you may have fucked the hub...etc...strut......

if you dont know what to do here, either learn or take to a garage.

right just had a look. if i turn the driveshaft in my hand i can feel a knock/clunk which i can tell if its coming from gearbox end or cv boot end. I javked up the otherside and this also had a clunk. Is this just the cogs moving normally?

I have took some pics. There is no movement or play in any of the other parts in that area. So i'm guessing driveshaft or cv joint?

you will get slight play in the drive shaft at the gearbox end due to the way it connects to the diff. get a big bar stick it in the wishbone, move it up and down and check for play in the ball joint and track rod end.
Also does the car steer to one side or is unbalanced ?
Any oil leaking from the shocker or is it quick to rebound?

Theres no oil coming from the shocker and i have bounced on all corners of the car and seems to rebound ok. Car steers slightly to the side but think thats due to my tracking getting knocked out. The kocking can be felt more when turning right.

hi mate,im a new member and have been reading your problems with your motor' i have same problem with my clio sport and have had it investigated by renault specialists i know what it is its your gearbox thats where you are getting the movement from your driveshafts, the bad news being your gearbox is damaged you will need a new gearbox or the cheaper opition getting your gearbox re-conditioned this should sort the problem.

Uh Ohh, hope it isn't your gearbox mate. Where is that oil coming from in the first pic? Can't work it out but oil looks fairly fresh...?

I would second this, my 172 has got knocking. Its been in garage two days trying to find out what it is. We had the driveshaft out, no damage. Checked everything else, nothing.

If you can put it up on a jack, start ya engine and let the wheel run round. If you just touch ya break really lightly and see if it knocks.

The bloke looking at mine is getting a new gearbox for me, he thinks it could one of the teeth or the dif??

I'll post more when it's done

same thing happened on my 1.2 clio on my front right had a lot of oil on the inside front wheel, turned out to be my drive shaft. after i had a wheel bearing changed and a cv joint. but a family friend did mine for 180 with all work paid and parts.
