Wheel refurb+sealant?

Evening guys,
I'm getting my wheels powdercoated soon, the process says they will be lacquered so I am going to assume the fact they are powdercoated and not just painted won't matter. My questions are;
1. How soon after I pick the car up will I be able to apply Gtech C5 or similar product?
2. I'll probably have to drive the car home, approx 50mins mostly motorway, before I can apply anything anyway, would just a wipe over and an ipa wipe or two be ok before application or will I be able to wash them thoroughly so soon after collection/will I need to wash thoroughly so soon?

I'm pretty sure powder coating doesn't involve laquer... :S

1. You can apply it as soon as you like.

2. Only you will know, depending how dirty they get. Use some not-so-common sense....

Believe me, it involves lacquer if it's gloss. Powder based lacquer.

Yeah the description I've read on the company's site about the process says it powder coats and then lacquers the wheels.
Im guessing it wouldn't hurt to give them a clean with cold water and then use some ipa wipes before applying.

Regardless of new wheels, I'd want the best base for the best product. 1hour of my time is worth the extra months it could last.

What he said. If you skimp on the prep because you can't be arsed you'll just have to do it again in a couple of months instead of 2 years.

Cool cheers the help guys, I'm just worried about doing all of the above to freshly finished wheels, should I maybe leave it a week before cleaning as above and sealing?

Why ? They won't melt.

If they were painted, without being baked, yes. As they would need to breathe/gas. Kev you know more about this if that's not a 100% explanation...

That doesn't happen these days. It's a 90's worry, not a naughties.

Sweet ill be detailing them as soon as I get home then and sealing with some C5 if I can get some, got a couple weeks so not in a huge rush.

They're powdercoated though. It's not paint. You don't need to wait a week.

Powered coatings set as soon as they have cooled down

They will be fine don't worry about it.

They will be fine. Powder coating is actually harder than normal waterbased paint.

This is what I like to hear, can't wait to get them sorted as the wheels are the only thing that lets my car down, haven't sealed before as they're scuffed to buggery!

I've heard a lot of places powder coating then final colour / lacquer coat over the top. Best to speak to the place that are doing it. But regardless of how many miles, it's highly advised to give it a full prep.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but pretty sure it was me that refurbed your wheels if they were done at swwr (south West wheel repairs in marsh barton) as i was the painter/refurbished there until recently!they were primed with a grey powdercoat primer then nibbed off and painted with a grey waterbased basecoat colour and powdercoat lacquered with a high gloss and baked at 180 degrees Sam
