wheels rubbing rear arches - what offset should I get?

I have 17 inch wheels fitted to my car with 205/40 17 eagle F1's but the rear wheels are rubbing the outside of the arches a little - running ET37 at the moment but have found a buyer for my wheels so gonna get some new ones - what offset would be best - any one else had this problem? Either ET40 or ET42 - any opinions?

i thought of that - is it reliable - will they mark the paint? I fancy new wheels anyway! who does arch rolling anyway?
what offset are yours fred - have you had your arches rolled and have sent you an email

do you know how much demon tweeks charge - with selling my alloys, new ones will cost me £150 so if not much diff would prefer new wheels.
do they damage thw paint rolling them

rubbing the outside of the arch - not the inner - tyre agains metal - does it very minimally but needs sortin. spacers would push it out even further

lol just this min had to do this to my arches. when ever i turned right thepassenger side rear wheel was scraping. so cut of were it had been scrapping and put 5mm spacers on. hoping will do the job. just need some 5mm spacers up front now 2 but they can wait for a few weeks yet as i havent got any rubbing

its rubbing like that on 16's without lowering - its gonna be real bad when you lower it!
mines on 17's and lowered 40 odd mm and it does not rub the inside - what offset are those wheels?

DIY using a panel hammer and slowly fold/tap back the metal lip.

looking at some wheels soon, i have a MK2 172 also thats dropped 40mm, which offset did you go for?? and tyre and wheel width just so's i know...

went for ET42 with 205/40 tyres. Wheels were 7x17.
Put them on yesterday and so far so good - seemed plenty of room at the back - may put some spacers on the front as the wheels seem a little too far into the wheel arch but other than that no problems so far

do yo u think a 7x18 in the offset etc would fit in there?

also wouldnt altering track width on the front only screw up the handling??

I know what you mean about messing up the handling - I was a bit worried - but again so far so good - the handling if anything feels a lot better! my front tyres were pretty worn on the inside due to being badly tracked after having coilovers fitted also the rear of my car was a little bit wobbly after fitting new rear tyres so have now swapped them round - front are on the back and vice versa - front feels so much more stable and although I havent given it much of a blast yet the back end seems better as well. The wheels are about 5/6 kilos lighter each so dont know if that would have made any differnce to the way it drives.
I am going to widen the track at the front later today by putting some 3mm spacers in so will only be 2mm different to the original ET37's I had. The front wheels seem to far into the wheel arch now - looks weird!
With regard to 18's - honestly I dont know - I suppose it depends how much you lower it by. Yous said yours is lowered 40mm I guess on Apex springs and judging by photos I have seen they sit pretty low so I would not like to say yes or no. I suppose it should be ok as long as you can get 205 18inch tyres and dont go any lower - best bet would be if you have an alloy wheels shop near you would be to try one on your car to see if it rubs - I would imagine the front will rub when turning sharp as well - if I used full lock on the et37's it would rub the inside of the arch - havent noticed it rubbing yet with the et42's - with 18's it will probably rub more due to being closer to the front of the inner arch
