wheels what size on a 1.2 mk1 clio

im looking to start to mod my clio, first thing to be done will be alloys. im concerned, i want 16s on it, will these fit without any arch mods? or will i have to stick with 15s? i will be lowering the car about 35mm.

sorry to be a pain and ask that question but i just need to know. any help would be much aprreciated.

16" sholud be fine dude, you can go about 60mm i think on 16"s.

if you get some scraping or rubbing just remove your arch liners.

thanks for the reply mate.

i hate a Megane Coupe but totalled it. now with buying a house i had to get a small car as its all i can afford and insurance (2 x fault claims in the last 2 years!) meant i had to get a small engine.

i saw this lil clio mk1 (my favourite!) with 49k on it - £600 steal!

im going to modify it slightly (no bodykits) lower it and put alloys on it. i also want to do the interior.

but looking at the wheel arches - they look so small. i definately know 17s wont go on (thats what i had on the Meg Coupe) and though about fitting 16s to it.

i think you can get 17" my mate had them on his valver, but the front and back arches are slightly wider.

16"s are the way forward and they wont be 2 heavy.

how did you total your meg?

i was on 16s but they totally sap the accelleration mate, iv now gone to 15s and the car is a far better ride. i had to have the arches rolled for the 16s, depends on what offset u get really i think but id say personally have a 1.2 mark 1 to get 15s

as for 17s... i reckon ud probably get overtaken by every nova driver in the country at some point! lol

usual roundabout incident. old guy in a honda crv goes to join the roundabout, stop suddenly and i back into him! i loved that Coupe though it was sweet whilst it lasted. i had that iced, lowered on 17s - i go for subtlety - no bodykits or neons

lesson learned. Anyway got me a tidy lil clio. like it said, i just want to lower it, smooth it of trim and stick some alloys on it. ill then sort the interior and ice it out a bit.

its just a standard 8 valver 1.2.

handling on the 15s has improved immensly as well as accelleration...

sorry the pics arent that close on the angle the pic is taken from!!

tbh if i was buyin the first wheels again i would have stuck with simple lightweight 15s like the pro race ones... but then again they werent out wen i bought the 16s!! lol

ohhhh

erm, thats a total headf..k i dont know what to got for now!!!

i suppose there is better choice on 15s...

thanks for that mate.

Patty what have you got your car lowered? full susp or springs? if so which springs have you got? and how long did it take for the person to lower your torsion beam?

I would say 15s as i have them on mine and lowered 55mm and i get some rubbage of the arches on full lock when you turn and hit a pot hole or dip and it damages the arch. so with 16s it would be even worse. better off getting valver arches if going big wheels.

Go for 15s mate, mines 60mm down with konis and it handles a dream!go for lightweight ones though i got a set of oz superleggaras and they look the part too!tyres ul probly be best with 195/45/15 otherwise rubbing maybe an issue!Ryan

16s and 40mm are fine doode (full locks a b**ch).............Apart from that used to be fine on my 1.2 anyway!!!

right then guys, ordered some nice new alloys!

got me some TSW Volcanos - 15s. ordered from Demon Tweeks. offset of 40 so they should go on without any probs (heres hoping!)

ill post pics when i get them on and once ive had the car lowered.

thanks for the advice people.
