Season finale 1992 - Silverstone

This one was the year i was born, so of course i didn't see it live (although i probably did if it was after i was born. But having seen this race since. EPIC, is the only word to describe.

Also, John Cleland = f**king hero. Still racing today, infact he took part in the Goodwood revival this year IIRC.

Also i love Murrays amazing way of hiding swearing "I'm going for first, says Cleland"

Nigel Mansell 1998 - Donington.

Whatever he drove, he drove it well and gave us epic entertainment. In the wet in the Mondy, an epic battle. 1998 is my fav year for BTCC, the last year were it was truly at its best. Bumper to bumper, in the wet showing true skill. Cheaky nudging, close action and brilliant to watch. I want this back!

Btw, I'm not saying BTCC is s**t now. Its just fallen off the radar a little, and needs this sort of action to bring it back.

Lol - 'in the year that I was born'

Fecking hell. I was half-way through my A-levels when I was watching this on TV.

Absolute quality racing from back then. I actually remember watching it thinking that all the drivers must have had a few screws loose in their heads to drive like they did!

I was only 6 watching the 1998 season but that race especially stuck in my mind, so it must have been something special! Curb hopping, paint swapping, bumper rubbing psycho drivers.

ROFFLE @ "Och aye the noo John, you are off indeed". Murray Walker, we miss you.

I was a 6 year old kid, centre circuit on the entrance to the Maggots/Becketts corners for this race :) So i remember seeing the dust from that Lagunas spin.
The good old days :(. My dad used to have a Laguna at the time too, so i thought they were awesome.

I can remember watching the Mansell race live with my dad. I was glued to it then and was glued to it a minute ago. Brilliant find mate!!:D What makes that race even more spectacular if you didnt already know was that the Mondeo was never anywhere near the front all season, BushyBrow gets in it and took the pee out of everyone....even the other drivers appriciated that. My personal favorite days of BTCC was when Volvo 850'S and Alpha's went head to head.

I absolutely adored those green Lagunas. The blue/yellow mondeos, white/red primeras and the lagunas are probably what got me into motorsport originally.

Re: When BTCC Was f**king awesome.

Was going to get a big black and white canvas print of a BTCC Laguna, like you adored them. It was either going to be a picture of that, or the famous image of Mansell Giving Senna a lift :)

stil is awesome IMO, ive only been watching it past 3 years, wish i started from when plato enterend back in the mid 90s, BTCC is miiiiiiiiiles better than F1!

  Ford Bantam 1.6
i still watch it on tv and when its at knockhill but its nothing compared to how it use to be,but i must say the last 3 races of this years championship was quality.

Has anyone got more videos of the BTCC volvos? they sounded amazing

It's still full of the action, it just doesn't have as big a fanbase/media stage these days. Most of those 95/96 videos just make me think of the Original TOCA game on the Playstation.

I think BTCC is on the up again. It may well be mostly if not 100% private entries next year, but the level of racing going on this year was superb. There is a rumour RML will run the Cruze next year in the BTCC and supposedly now that Vauxhall are out GM wouldnt have such issues entering a works Chev team.

And theres a few other rumours surrounding a Volvo team with Plato have first refusal on the main drive.

Would be great to see some more of the old hands back as well. Its still the best motorsport going atm.

Exactly. They didn't need wide bodykits, they just used epic camber. The green laguna is p**n.

BTCC went the same way as all motorsport. Big corporations got involved and ruined it, like they ruin everything. Im so glad toyota, bmw and hopefully renault are out of F1. Frank Williams, Paul Stoddard, Peter Sauber, Ross Brawn and Patrick Head are were F1 is and should be. Same with BTCC. Get rid of the corporate rubbish and get back to some serious petrol heads getting involved.

Not sure that BTCC has gone slightly down hill due to big corporations, more like crap rule changes like F1. There were still big if not bigger companies involved in the 80's/90's.

I think this season has been one of the better seasons. I've watched pretty much every round and made the trip to donny to watch. Final round was brilliant with anyone of 3 drivers still in for a shout of the championship.
