When changing thermostat do I need the housing or just the stat itself

Was in my local renault dealer about a new thermostat.

They asked whether I wanted the full housing or just the thermostat with the o ring.?

Any help would be great

Just the stat.

Ah ok a mate thanks so the housing comes off and the stat is sitting in the block correct?

3 bolts around the top radiator hose and the stat comes out with the housing and just needs a bit of persuasion to leave.
