When fitting a 182 mani'd and cat to 172, is the cat' too short or too long?

I'm about to hand over the beans for a 182 manifold but the cat' is available as well.

From what I have read, I gather that the 182 mani' leaves a gap between the 182 cat' and the 172 and that you simply need a link pipe to make up the difference.

Can someone confirm this is correct?

I have just read the K-Tec ad' for the link pipe and it would appear that the gap between the mani' and exhaust is to short to fit the 182 cat' so the exhaust will need to be modded to fit the cat'?

the gap you refer to is between the end of the 182 manifold and the start of what would be the 172 cat back system

the 182 cat is too long, but can be moddified to fit

So I should buy the cat' as well and whip a couple of inches off for the MOT then buy a decat for the rest of the year.

What is involved in modding the cat' Fred?

its not as simple as you describe!!! LOL

its easier to moddify the 172 cat back than the 182 cat, but either can be done

I thought modding the exhaust would be easier.

Would modding the cat' involving cutting the actual honey comb?

Everything's easy in theory LOL.

na, you basically need to chop the "ball end" off the 182 cat and weld a flange on to it, and i think you need to shorten the other end

all the ones i've done we've just stuck a link pipe in

What do you mean by 'ball end' Fred?

Does the 182 cat have the same matings as a 172 cat ie. flange with mating face at the back end and sprung flange at the manifold end with metallic sealing ring?

I just need to make sure I have a cat' available come MOT time.

Do you supply the link pipes required?

nope it has a trumpet/ball joint flange where the centre section joins the cat (the other end it the same as a 172)
