Where Can I Get Pearl Black Paint From?

  Coiley'd Clio PH2
Basically im gonna have a go myself at colour coding my bump strips, spoiler and door handles etc...
All i need to know is where is the best place to get pearl black paint from?
I know Halfords do some, but its not always that good a match.
How much is it from Renault?

Cheers

tbh halfords paint is fine.

black is very very easy to match

alternativley you could goto renault and pay extra, or goto autopaint.co.uk

or find your local paint supplier and get a couple of cans up mixed to match which average at about £10 per can

paint from halfords etc is mixed based on when the paint was new so unless your car is brand new it wont match 100%

alright then, we'll give it a go with halfords paint.
Start on something small like door handles first i think.

thats not true,so are you trying to say that your paint changes colour as the car gets older? e.g pearl black.

their off the shelf pre made paints are perfect. Just dont get them to mix one up for you

paint does change colour, but mostly not that much.

it fades, gets weathered and can oxodise. most of the time it can be restored with a simple good polish with a cutting compound, other times it may have faded that much that the colour has to be tinted to match the new colour.

I just got a half size spray can of pearl black from Renault..you get the same size can
of lacquer..for £14 but i got a £1 off. it cames as a "kit".

No.solid colours change colour e.g. red and white, base coat colours such as any metallic will never change as there is a clear coat over the top of it,so the base colour always stays the same and never changes but as for reds and whites etc they can change by oxodieing as its not protected by a clear coat.

I did my door strips at the weekend.. got the plastic primer, black 676 paint and clear Laquer from auto-paint.co.uk.. the black pait dried funny and was blotchy but I decided to laquer anyway and they came up well.. far better than I thought! I rant outta paint so just waiting for another can so I can get the passenger door finished.. I would like to do the handles and bumpers, but does anyone know how to get the exterior handles off?

Good luck with the paint job!

Cheers

ive seen plenty of laquered jobs fade and need to be mopped up, obviously laquer doesnt weather at all, youre right, im wrong

laquer may weather(it only dulls slightly) but the base does not which means the colour doesnt change what so ever!

if the laquer dulls then visually the colour has changed

thats why every single basecoat/laquer job has to blended into the next panel if its anywhere near the edge, otherwise you would have a hard edge and 2 completely different colours.

but as you put it "colours dont change" i suppose you edge to edge every job huh? ;)

^You'll need to take the door cards off.

Obviously... Yep! I did this and sanded them all down so I got rid of the bumpy plastic and got them all smooth before priming, painting and laquering...

Have you decided which or where you are going to get paint? would be good to hear what halfords mixed stuff is like!

You say ur a painter, think youve slept with one :D cos you dont half talk crap, even if laquer has dulled over time and you paint another panel beside it without blending and the colour is a good match, then the two panels will match except one panel will look glossier than the other, and no, i usually blend if it has to be done but with the paint system i use,i know what colours are good matches without blending and ones which are not!

what about if some numb nuts mixed the paint wrong on a previous repair and you try and match the colour, blend blend all the time,(apart from bumper bars)

to get door handles off you need to remove the door cards and theres a few torx screws you need to undo. pretty easy to do but takes a little while
