Where to buy a 200?

If I was going to buy another 200 I would gladly pay an extra £1,000 for liquid yellow or alien green. I paid £5,500 for a 70,000 mile glacier white 200 Cup with Recaros in April 2020.

Watching the prices on FB groups I reckon colours of AG or LY (and currently PW) add more like £3k to the ‘asking’ price of a 200.

I’d love to know why the 200 feels like it does. I can’t see it’s just weight as it’s more the way the engine feels in the mid range plus shouldn’t the gearing help?. My mate drove mine the other day (he has a 182) and he said if he didn’t know he’d say it was 150bhp. I was trying to get him to thrash it but I don’t think he got past the completely different response and feel below 4krpm.

The 200 is more like a civic type r than a 172/182 (my Mrs has an fn2)

I reckon 250bhp would be perfect in a 200 but how do you get there! Go SC and spend £10k for it to feel similar with the power still all at the top.

One thing I’d love to drive is a 200 engine in a 172/182. That’d be interesting, would it feel better or worse.

Gearing is pretty saucy in the 200 and more setup for quick blasts, but also able to cruise pretty well with the long 6th.
You really need to be above 4k if you want to make any progress. Completely different power delivery to a 1X2

A legitimate 200bhp would of been a good start for the Mk3's, but that's never the case. They're just too lardy for the engine output

I loved my 200 even though it was lacking a bit of grunt. If you're looking to spend 10k on one you definitely want one with low mileage, recaros and speedlines. If you're struggling to find a good spec with the right bits I'd actually get a Mk3 Meg 250 for that money, special cars.

I think about the megane thing but they don’t Rev much. I like the whole high rpm thing on track, makes it feel more fun. Can’t dispute the megs are fast though. Can be on the edge in my 172 and a Meg comes past all composed and quiet. But are they having more fun, look more chilled to me on track.

Totally get what you're saying. Obviously a 172/182 is more on the edge and weighs quite a lot less. A 200 to a Meg is a much closer comparison though. Thie high revving n/a was the only thing I missed in my 200 compared to my Meg. The way the Meg felt in all other aspects was just fantastic, the reason why I'll definitely get another one. I actually found it a very fun car to drive, mainly down to the steering feel I think. Love them all really though!

I'd say a mk2 Meg is a closer comparison to a 200 - same suspension design, smaller footprint than the mk3 which feels much larger.

R26's are much quicker cars. I got put off by the 200's....the two ive driven were kangarooing all over the place in low gears and had bad flat spots.

Definitely. 10k would surely get you a very good example of an R26, problem would probably be finding one.

Seems reasonable money for Pearl white & recaros, mileage I guess. Reckon one of the traders will snap that up and £8995 it before the week’s out.
Like you say, the mileage is too high for it to remain collectable imo.

I keep going back to the AG posted on page 1 but with a high mileage the premium is just too much I reckon.

There's a 1 owner alien green on autotrader.

Pearl white seems to be commanding a premuin now too. There's only 46 of them though so maybe worthwhile?
What are people's thoughts on this one? I keep coming back to it.

Were those seats an option, I've not seen them before.

Don't know about the car but their most recent review tickled me...
'Later Nick passed my email onto Chris who instead of replying just to Nick, pressed reply all. This is what he put... 'Ive already spoken to the silly c**t, leave the idiot with me'.'

We've all done it to be fair to them.

Love the AG colour. Higher mileage but if your paying less than a lower mileage example you can budget for new tyres (appears to have budgets on), brakes, ball joints (if needed) etc. Also it has Bluetooth which not all have. Not sure re seats, presume they were a factory option.

Leathers were an option, but I’m prettt certain that quilted pattern is aftermarket

Yep, will need new tyres. It's the condition and the fact it's not been messed about with that is also appealing. Even with the colour, I still think it's £500-£1k over priced really, considering it will need belts in a year, new tyres and the wheel is peeling a little. But it's a 1 owner car, which ime do tend to just be in better condition really.

Looks like it the accessories leather upgrade, done by a company call trimtech through renault.
That's good info thanks, I assumed it was aftermarket as @RSRowe said.

Also the door handles have been done in black which is a nice touch imo.

The dealer seems friendly but they're just noncommittal on everything.

I asked some more questions on condition and the reply was just 'it's as the photos' and he wouldn't give any more details. The photos are good but they can still be things more obvious in real life. The warranty is strictly return to base or you can buy a 3rd party one. They'll stick an MOT on it but wouldn't commit to fixing advisories, including the knock that's been on the last MOT, they just said we'd look at it once it's been through. Oh, and they've had it since September by the dates on the advert but there are apparently 6 other people interested at the moment.

They seem like an ok garage if you are local but a pita for anyone buying from distance.

Maybe I'm expecting too much, but they sell a lot of high value cars too, and my experience from Ashgood last year was a walk around going through condition on the phone, then loads of pictures sent to me in addition. No crap about we have this many people interested, and the 3 month warranty was RTB but as i'm far away they're happy to work with a local specialist if anything goes wrong to save me the trip down.

And it's been pepped well which shows that it's been looked after. Even without recaros I think it's a decent spec and the leather is much better than having the white or yellow trim seats 🤮.

It was trim technik the company.

IMO, the deal would of been done by now if it had matching tyres and a set of Recaro's.
I think you're right about it being a little steep price wise.

Ultimately though, they are a rare car. Enjoyment isn't worth missing out on for the sake for 500-1000 quid.

The dealer selling the AG really annoyed me, so I've pretty much written that off.

I kept looking at the Lincoln white 200 and decided to call the guy to get a bit more info, the seller seems decent, he's also an enthusiast and has other 200s of his own. He was pretty honest and told me he bought it cheap with some issues and has fixed them and is trying to flip it, so going down Saturday to have a look and if it all seems good then I'll be driving it home.

Quite excited to get back in a clio again so hopefully it's all good!

It's a good price but doesn't look that tidy to me. Notice the drivers door looks to have sagged plus the front and rear bumpers have some marks on them. Not trying to be negative, just know what it's like from past experience when you get your hopes up over a car you really want. No harm in looking though. Shame the Garage with AG one have put you off, it does look tidy. Good luck.

Yep, noted those 3 issues already, front bumper fitment is a bit worse than usual too.

The guy has mentioned the bumper marks on the advert, re the door, I've been comparing to other ads and it is slightly more down than other cars but they're all a bit down it seems.

Like you say, no harm in looking. I'm keeping in mind it's a 13 year old car at the bottom of the market, which makes me feel really old as I remember going to look at them when they were new 😂.

Those Recaros are shagged. They always conveniently cut out the worst of the damage on the pics.

I'm completely with you on the Cruise front.
Mine failed just before a trip to Germany..... it was horrific using my foot for the entire journey

If i remember correctly the recaros where same pattern but yellow, and didnt match the back seats as they were the same unpattern fabric as standard front seats

Think you're definitely correct. I've seen a few 200's with 197 colour Recaros in them though? Wouldn't put it past Renault to mix and match a bit!

I wouldn't be surprised either, it could have changed in 2010 when they revised the suspension slightly too.
