Where to route cables for oil gauges ?

Dunno if this is right section, but here it gos.

I'm about to fit oil temp and pressure gauges to my 2002 172ff and was gonna mount them in a pillar mounted pod(drivers side).

My question is where can i take my lives feeds from for these gauges (illumination etc) ?

As the radio ignition feed seems a bit far away to route a live wire from :(

And where on the drivers side of the car can i route through the gauge sensor wires through from the engine bay ?

The closer to the drivers windscreen/door pillar the better. :)

Cheers

Nowhere already there on the drivers side to route cables through. You'll have to go through the bonnet release grommet and have long cables or find somewhere to drill a hole.

Should be able to pick an ignition and illumination feed up from the dials.

Is there nowhere at all on drivers side ? :S

As it'll be a pain in ass drilling holes in bulkhead and i dont want to go down that route if i can :)

I guess i may have to run them through the passengers side.

Is there anywhere to bring them through from engine bay on the passengers side ?

I dont fancy taking the illumination from my dials neither as if i chop the wrong wire they could be fooked :(

dont cut the wrong wire then, couldnt be simpler to locate what does what using a power probe.
is your oil pressure gauge electrical signal or mechanical? if its mechanical you dont want to run the copper piping all the way to the passenger side then back to the other side up the pillar.
and you would be better off drilling a hole - you may be able to go through the inner wing and run the cables behind the outer wing then up the door post in to the pillar somewhere, just dont drill through a drain tube you will need to have a look what youve got.

Oil pressure and Oil Temperature gauges both have electrical signalled sensors :)

So heres hoping my sensor wires are long enough to reach inside car :S

run them through the bonnet release cable grommet in the passengers side footwell (look up the back of the dashboard behind the glovebox, its tricky to get to but possible)

under the bonnet remove the coolant resoivar(sp?!) then the sound deadning behind it and you should be able to get to it from there.

Running them through that grommet sounds a plan :)

Cheers mate. ;)

Just thinking though is there a chance of the rain or water leaking through that grommet at all ?

After i've forced a few cables through :S

Or is it out of the way enough to not have to worry ?

I'd go have a look at my car to find the grommet, but i'm offshore in Egypt working at the moment :(

Alrighty cheers mate ;)

I still Aint fitted gauges yet.

Anyone any other ways through to engine bay apart from bonnet catch cable grommet ?

And i aint drilling holes.
