ok i have decided not to go 4 the second hand 172 but.....

do i buy a new 172 cup (£11445) or 172 cup climate (+£600)(£11895) or just 172 (+£1200 abs, 4 airbags and cc)(£12495)

all above prices include £300 extra for metalic black

so many choices god damm !

oh and can u take out the cd player as i have a mp3 player that plugs into a cassette

Either Cup with climate or normal 172. Look here for the arguments for climate control -> http://forum.cliosport.net/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=2&TopicID=43667&PagePosition=1http://forum.cliosport.net/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=2&TopicID=43667&PagePosition=1 It really is worthwhile.

As for Cup or 172, its your decision as to whether you want a totally focused performance version with no frills, or you want the heavier 172 with the luxury. Both have similar performance because they are the same car with the same engine, but due to the Cup weight loss, its going to be slightly quicker. I personally didnt care about a couple of tenths on a 0-60 and went for luxury but a lot of people prefer the focus of the Cup and dont care about the luxuries.

Do a search, there are plenty of 172 vs Cup (too many in fact) debates to get your teeth into. Drive both and see if you can make a decision

Yes you can take out the Renault head unit. I replaced mine with an MP3 player too.

BTW you can get a regular 172 for less than 12495 (will be import of course)

Go for the 172, then you have a luxury sports car.. why compromise ? add a sports exhaust and you will gain that 0.1 second.

Plus the normal thickness glass on 172s are handy if you get shot at by an air rifle.. eh ? Lee ?

thnx m8 that is very helpfull and will help me make a decision

iam not too bothered about the 0-60 loss on the lux version and it has abs which may come in handy at those speeds anyway

do imports loose much value quicker ?

Not only does it have ABS, but it also has ASR (traction control), ESP and EBD if you need them ;).

Imports lose value at a similar rate, but remember you paid less in the first place! They are specced the same (apart from alarm which is a dealer fit thing in the UK) and are impossible to tell from non-imports without checking stuff out. Mine says nothing to give it away (even on the V5).

Also remember that a good proportion of 172s are imports these days due to the savings to be had. My dealer said to me that they hardly sell any 172s in there because everyone gets them on import. Yes the UK one might be worth more in 3 years but it cost £14500 as opposed to £11699 (using trade sales price for example). My mum and dads Golf GT TDi thing was an import and theyve just traded it in, and got £500 knocked off because it was an import - not bad considering they saved £4500 in the first place!!

Good luck!

Yeah but by the time youve paid the price for the valet the delivary inspection at motorpoint you arent that far off the renault price. I have no regrets in getting a UK car even thought I know I paid a little more.
