which Headunit

ok ive got just under £300 to spend on a new headunit for christmas , but which one should i go for ? i was thinknig maybe the kenwood KDC-M7024 - CD/MP3 PLAYER...will a kenwood connect straight in to my clio i have a jvc at the moment.

what about the ALPINE-CDA-9813R , that sounds nice...

but will i have to have the alpine hard wired in to my car ??

  Mk2 Golf GTI

dont all headunits just pop straight in? definitely one of the above two though, dont rate Kenwood

most head units slot straight in, it;s all to do with the DIN size

as suggested the alpine unit is the daddy of all products in the same price braket

I have only ever had alpine by choice id never choose another brand unless i wanted a car racing around a track on my display to impress my mates. I go for SQ and you can get some real quality for 300.

Try http://www.mcs-direct.co.ukwww.mcs-direct.co.uk if you want a new stereo.

Most HUs sell new here for what they do on ebay 2nd hand.

Go figure!

is it really worth the extra £90-£100 for the 9815 ?? i was thinknig of purchasing the CDA-9812RB which is £237...

I work at an Alpine dealership and I would recommend the 9815, as it is worth the extra money, and if you use Mp3s get the steering wheel adaptor as it makes changing folders (albums) much easier the only thing to remember is it needs power straight from the battery, will not just plug and go.

Try http://www.alphacaraudio.co.ukwww.alphacaraudio.co.uk they usually have some good deals

Myself i have a 97 model pioneer and the only thing that has gone wrong was two buttons snapped this year not bad after 6+yrs cost to replace £15 so i would recommend them i think the pioneer only costs £15 for the adaptor to make the steering wheel control work

I think the 9813r upwards have iPersonalise so you can save your settings on the stereo setup for different people.

Mr Ruv172 alpine dealership is the cda-7969r any good?

Cda-7969R was a good unit but has been superceeded by newer and better models now. Personally I think overpriced for what it was. iPersonalise is good if you want to change settings for time delay etc. I run a cda-7983r and is only my second head unit in ten years, Alpine do not go wrong (very often), I only return probably 5 units a year for repair.

And another vote for the Pioneer 77MP! It is very good for the money and looks the b****cks - (none of this picture crap)

I got mine for £220 back in May at the French Car Show..

£229.99 http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=2381&osCsid=af605413a395a523292bcd83d41b46bchttp://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=2381&osCsid=af605413a395a523292bcd83d41b46bc

£225.99 from http://www.letsbuycaraudio.com/main/cdTuners/1http://www.letsbuycaraudio.com/main/cdTuners/1

Ive bought products from both these companies and both have been utterly reliable :)

Took me about 1-2 hours to install as i had to connect it straight to my battery and rig up an earth aswell, there seems to be loads of options i didnt have a clue what i was doing hehe but it seems a good choice ! Ill have a play with it tomorrow in the light :D

Thanks everyone for the advice !

I can vouch for the Kenwood one, i have a KDC-M6021G CD/MP3 player, it is sooo sweet being able to get 14 albums onto one CD. Mine just connected straight up no fuss, its got 4x50W, and runs a couple of 330W 6x93 brilliently

Oh and it does need hard wiring to the battery !! but this takes 10 minutes !! run a wire from the little fused box (included) to the battery easy as that. Theres a little grommet behing the glovebox where the wire can be run !

Who thinks the positioning of the stereo in the clio MK1s is absoluteley a pain in the nuts?

I

Brand new 9815s now on ebay for nearing 260! go on!

Go for the KDC-M7024 kenwood headunit. I got it in my clio rt with kenwood 6 1/2 inch mids and kenwood 6x9s and it sounds awsome! It nicely hides when u turn off the ignition and opens again when u turn on the car. Its a great stereo. If you get it, get it from http://www.bass-junkies.comwww.bass-junkies.com or the other online shops as mentioned above. It goes for about £215 on the net and £369 at halfords!!!!! Bargain! Sam

Another vote for 9813R Alpine - not had much of a play with it but it just oozes quality.

& i cant stand those Pioneer displays! Pain in the arse coz you cant see what track youre on without pressing a button!

Alpine was a pain to wire - but have peace of mind knowing it wont catch fire!
