Which Liquid Metal?! Gubbed thread

  tiTTy & SV650
This isn't car related, Mountain Bike suspension...

But anyway...

I have bought some 2nd hand suspension forks and got them dirt cheap cause one thread is gubbed.

It's an M6 steel bolt into a magnesium casting, dis-similar metals and all that jazz - it's corroded and stripped (white furr everywhere).

I wanna repair this using some sort of liquid metal filler which sets hard enough to be drilled and tapped. Must be OK to use with magnesium.

Can't drill the part bigger to take larger than M6 as there's not enough material, can't drill through and use a nut as it's bonded to the carbon fibre legs which are in the way of any potential through holes.

Any suggestions?!

Cheers, Rory

cheers, heli coils aren't the best but yeah a thread insert may be an option.

Belzona stuff sounds promising, won't be getting it welded, ever seen magnesium burn?! lol

Magnesium needs to be welded in an oxygen free environment, burns white hot.

fairy snuff, we have TIG at work, im crap at arc welding though so prob try the liquid metal first. Cheers

post a picture of it ,, if i can weld it i will :)

if i can fill the hole and then you can drill and tap it out again.
