Which model to buy???

Hi, i'm looking to buy a clio sport shortly but not sure which model to get. Either a 172 cup or 182/ maybe 182 cup. Just want peoples opinions. Also common faults to look for.

I might have a lovely Racing Blue 182 Full Fat up for sale soon if you are interested?

  172 Cup

:slap:
Helps if you tell us what you're looking for!
The 172 Cup is rawrest, the 182 actual Cup is a bit so-so, the 182FF with both cup packs is good but heavier than a 172 Cup and still has aircon.
Do you want aircon? If you don't want aircon get the 172 Cup.

Things to look for:
Make sure the cam belt, aux belt, tensioners and dephaser have all been done recently by one of our known specialists (not just someone who promises they know what they're doing/the seller says is a specialist), this is ~£500 if it hasn't been done and it's not worth risking it.
Rear dampers wear quickly, if they're gone it'll fidget like crazy under acceleration. Not overly expensive to replace.
Exhaust mounts are made of cheese but again cheap and easy to fix.
Standard exhausts can rust pretty quick too, most will have a stainless catback by now.
Engine mounts can go, particularly the "dogbone" gearbox mount, you may notice vibration (even visible gear stick wobble) and/or a stiff shift.
Listen for gearbox whine, synchros can go. Expensive fix.
Hazard light button breaks very easily, get the seller to press it for you.
High level brake lights go.
Fuel pressure regulator can get lazy meaning you might need to wait a second for pressure to build before starting.
CD players are temperamental, sometimes they wont play, sometimes they won't give your CD back.
I'd be inclined to walk away at any weird electrical faults as the UCH (electric gizmo) can die and that's an expensive one too.

If looking for a Cup you need to be sure you get a Cup, not ripped off.

I think that covers everything. Sounds a lot but that's just because they're in the price range where a lot are not getting looked after and there's a lot of understanding of the car because of the strong community.

You can get a later 172Cup with aircon. 172Cup is the one if you want something raw, you can change suspension springs and seats...but if you buy 182 full fat it will have Cup spoiler and suspension, but you will have all toys. The 182Cup is nonsense in reality as its only 20kgs lighter than standard with crap interior. At least the 172Cup was 89kgs lighter than a standard 172.

  LY FF182
If I was to buy another it'd be a 172 cup and put FF seats and xenons on. Plus a decent exhaust

Cub.

I would say - forget the 172.

172 Cup for raw experience.

182 for a well rounded experience with all the toys.

FLOL - unless you want the best colour Renault do - which is flame red ;)

Plus, all this chat of 'raw experience' makes it sound like there are massive differences between the cup and FF 172. There aren't, at least not enough to make it any quicker either on road or track. That's more about driver ;)

Why are people so keen to knock standard 172's? They are a good spec, came in some great colours, are no slower than any other Ph2 and can be picked up for buttons.

But yeah... 172 Cup for the lolz and if you like overheating on cloth seats.

I refer you to my earlier post. I meant raw as in - not luxurious!

Yes, 172 have flame red - not my personal choice but it seems very popular. They do sell for peanuts, maybe you would lose less money on it as I cant seem them depreciating any more. I had to save that 89kg to compensate for the beer gut ;) haha

They're all much of a muchness really - buy on condition, history and mileage. Thats all that really matters.

182ff, not really any difference pace wise to a 172 cup and it has way better seats, better looking exhausts and a few more gadgets, i wouldnt give a tramp the cup seats.

RB or Inferno 182 with Recaros imo.

Cup or FF, makes little difference really if you have Recaros.

I had a ph2 172, it was a brilliant car. Went round most tracks faster than cups, 182's and trophy's etc.

I would certainly not rule out a 172 they are superb cars and cheaper than 182's, whats not to love really?
