which next clio should I go for?

Are they bad for track day?

If you push them to the limit they can snap away the phase 1's are the worst.

Depends how far to the limit you drive. Do a track day or two and you might find you don't trry to set the world lap record and prefere just pushing it a bit in which case a V6 is ideal looks good goes well not dangerous rare etc.

^^ah right I didn't know that and do mk1 v6 hate the wet?

I'm going to test drive them soon to see what it like for me

thanks the pics vomboy 172 ;)

I think they be round about £15,000 or more for that one

Not very good pics.

Nope there fine so long as your respect that there not like a FWD car. Enough are crashed every year by people who treat them like a normal safe car in the wet and push them to 100% and crash them.

The gearboxes are not the best in the v6's either.

why that, it is hard to get in gear?

I should be ok driving the mk1 v6 and I have to remember it a RWD :)

Noisy gearboxes, fred told me they were out of a renault traffic van????

Mine started to get harder to put into first gear and that had done around 36k when I sold it. May have just been my car but i'm sure i've heard the same problem with other mk1 v6's.

If you drive it hard, they can eat clutches too!

Not trying to put you off at all, just making you aware of the problems and concerns I had with mine. I really do prefer the 172 cup handling to the v6 though, I feel a lot more confident driving the 172 and it can be "chucked" around a lot more.

Yep Pk6 box is used on load of stuff. Renault didn't want to use the normal box the V6 Laguna uses as they have auto's (another usless box). Not very strong plus differentials are week plus they break etc. Depends how you treat them etc. Chnaging oil can help.

Clutch are week as there the week spot in the system to protect the gearbox. Hard starts are the killer since the rear wheels have so much grip the engine has the power and the clutch just slips to stop the box dying. Mike T used to blow his box up all the time (didn't t help he was using a stronger plate clutch and running 440hp+) hence why he went spent on a proper strong box.

^^ would love to have one but hard to find one now :( lol

thanks for detail about the v6! :)

mk1 172 should be the best one to drive, am I right but what about mk1 172 exclusives?

Whats wrong with a 172 or 182 Giles ?? thought that was what you wanted next .. unless your prepped to pay £14k+ for 197, V6 etc ??

  Clio 197
^^ nothing wrong with them. I just need to know about the mk1 v6 first and I know they cost more, but I want to test drive them soon to see if I like it or not. Don't think I bother looking 197 and just see the price...hmm it cost too much:dapprove: lol

I still like mk1 172 or mk2 182:)

as i said giles, i dont think the 172 will give you the change you want from the rsi, looking at the same dash etc,

how about a liquid 182 like bubbles

  Clio 197
the RSi & 172 are same interior part of the silver bits

I'm abit more fan mk2 ph1 shape but I only like mk2 182 cup pack in two colour are arctic blue & racing blue :)

I still love my RSi now but dunno what to do now lol

You said you want something quicker though.... which the 172 mk1 offers over the RSI. So your still getting the looks you like with the mk2 ph1 shape but with the extra performance.

Seems like your pretty dedicated to the mk2 ph1 shapes lol having your old 1.2 and rsi. May as well get a 172 mk1 now? Plus there not very expensive for possibly the best 1*2 made!

i just feel you may get bored pretty quick lol, that was my thinking from going from the ph2 to the ph1, i didnt want to have the smae car just a different engine

^^nah I won't be bored ;)

Well yeah I do want a quicker car but I just found out how much the meg 225 and clio 197 today. It cost to much for me and no point spending all my money on that. Yeah I'm like my shape the most but dunno why:eek: lol

Giles, I'd go for the Mk1 172 or the 182. Have that for a while, have some fun in it and then when you've had it a while and have more experience then go for a Mk2 Vee when they're cheaper.

dont bother with the V6 Giles, I wouldn't piss on one tbh, but then I'm a performance nut, so a car with poor handling and boring performance doesn't tick all the right boxes for me. Personally if you love the shape on the Ph1 172 (yes, Ph1, a Mk1 is a Valver or Williams people...) and only want extra performance then do that I say. I'd look to get a yellow one or the ultra rare silver, Exclusive is also very nice, I'd worry about making a mess of the interior though. Other than that I'd just get a regular FF 172 and do a manifold match, cheaper than paying more for what is basically the same car.

megane F1 for me....

De-stickered of course. ;)

looks nice but I bet they are £16k?

V6 MK2 New shape for a change Giles :D

I'm not spending £15k or more on mk2 v6, but thanks for asking lol

thanks, just thinking about mk1 172 :)

Can't see any mk1 v6 for sales around near me, oh well lol Yeah I do like ph1 172 the most but do the cambelt need changing over 50k miles?

I don't see why people like the 172 exclusives? I hate the colour!

I like black 172 mk2 ph1's, yellow or blue. Silver is just way too common.

172 mk2 ph1 cambelt requires changing at 5 years or 72k miles (whichever comes sooner) but most people replace them a lot sooner than this and I would imagine if you buy a 172 mk2 ph1, it should already have been done.

  Clio 172 mk2
Silver is easy to keep clean though for lazy b*stards like me.....I'll never buy another black car again even though they look mean when polished up.

as Chris said, chances are it will have been done, if not avoid it as it should have been by now Giles.

Best bet is to test them all out, depends what you want out of the car, but the Ph1 is the rawest of the Mk2's, still not quite raw enough for my liking, so on that I dont think I'd bother with a 182 tbh. This will almost certainly be my last Clio now...
