which oil

hi peeps just quick question regarding which oil is best for my car . it is a mk2 172 and is going in for 36k service on monday and am gonna take my own oil to get it put in , also how much will it need ?? any help please or suggestions

ok cool which make is in urs ?? and how much will i need ?? is that 0w40 ?? read few threads before and other people have said 5w40 ??

I use Castrol RS, you will need just under 5 litres, 0w40 or 5w40 is fine, its a personal choice, which is yours;)

  Ford Fiesta

manual says 5w40 fully synthetic, but others will say otherwise on here. You choice at end of the day. Good idea taking your own though, then you know you are putting the correct stuff in!

I use 0w40 in the winter and 5w40 in the summer, my uncle used to work for Castrol in there research centre, both work the same in high temps but the 0w40 works better than the 5w40 in the cold winter months, basically the oil gets around your engine quicker on start up which is good as this is where its needed most, any oil that exceeds ACEA A1*/A3/A5* on the tub is ok IMHO.

Mobil One is the dogs, used to put in my ax gt all the time, engine ran forever, just everythin else packed in! - So a waste of money really.
To be honest it dont matter massively what oil you put in, providing it aint chip fat cheap stuff, so long as you change it regularly and dont rag the nuts off your engine from cold. Your fully synthetic oils circulate round the engine rapidly from cold providing more protection when your engine is subject to the most engine wear - they do disintergrate faster than mineral oils though so its swings and roundabouts
