Well i had my cambelt / aux done in march, 2 weeks ago my car started to whine. Turned out to be one of the new idler pulleys on the aux belt was faulty , it had not failed but was just makeing a horrible noise.
Well when my idler was whining it sounded like it was coming from the alternator, but it was the sound vibrating through the metal case.
Fred gave me a hand, first take of the Aux belt if the noise stops you know its in this line (dont run the car to long with the belt off.
then start by checking the cheapest parts idlers, then your alternator and hope to god its got noithing to do with your power steering pump cos they are a pain to change.
