Whining noise

  182 Cup
Had my cambelt and aux belt done today at Jamsport. I noticed on the way back when the engine is revved it follows a whining noise, is this normal?

Well i had my cambelt / aux done in march, 2 weeks ago my car started to whine. Turned out to be one of the new idler pulleys on the aux belt was faulty , it had not failed but was just makeing a horrible noise.

May be worth looking at.

Will do. Thinking about it, its more of a whiring noise than a whine, same sorta thing I guess. Cant really say whether it was there before.

Well, mine was a horrid noise all the time, and the more load but on the Aux belt and the higher up the revs you got the louder it got.

I drove 500+ miles before i got it changed. Not really clever but itts what i had to do.

By horrid i mean not normal and annoying, but get it checked out.

On another note, i ve learned not to try and describe sounds over the interwebz!

Wouldn't be the alternator would it? I've read on here before people posting a faulty/failing alternator sounding like a supercharger.

Well when my idler was whining it sounded like it was coming from the alternator, but it was the sound vibrating through the metal case.

Fred gave me a hand, first take of the Aux belt if the noise stops you know its in this line (dont run the car to long with the belt off.

then start by checking the cheapest parts :D idlers, then your alternator and hope to god its got noithing to do with your power steering pump cos they are a pain to change.

Surely the obvious thing to do would be contact Jamsport? Just tell them you have a whirring noise that you do not think was there before.

I am sure they will have a look and cure the problem if there is one.
