White backgrounds

anyone ever used a background kit for taking family photos etc? or know of a cheap way around buying the kit & cloth?

im after trying to get some shots like they do in olan mills for portraits / family shots but without the massive expense!

I use paper - and it is fairly cheap, however you need the pole etc to keep it up.

if you use your DIY imagination - you can by pass the stands etc.
hang it at a height of 7 to 8ft and you shoud be fine.

Christ, you have not been introduced to the internet have you ???....just search DIY lighting...... use a washing line and a bed sheet lol.....and bubble wrap over the flash

calumet sell rolls of paper and also stand up backgrounds but your still looking at 50ish quid to do it that way...

still 250 quid will get u a couple studio flashes, softbox, sync lead and back drop...

LOL! Yes, but experience counts! people might have tried some of these before and got really shabby results!
There are people with a lot of experience on this forum, why not tap into it rather than keep trying things people already konw gives poor results!

Been doing quite a few of theses type pictures recently and you have to remember that to have a pure white background you have to over expose the background for example i use a flash lights on the backdrop at around F8 and expose the subject at around f4 with a flash light shoot through a umbrella to fill in but you have to have the subject a few feet from the background so you dont get any light spill on the subject and remember you dont need a white backdrop because you are overexposing it you could use grey.If you just use a white backdrop and use the same exposure for the subject and and backdrop your white will look grey and any creases will show up.Few examples below pictures straight from camera only cropped.
