white polish marks on plastics.

  ITB BG 182
Ive tried to search on this but nothing is coming up.

Ive done a 1998 freelander recently and it now has white marks on the black plasics down the sides.
I have the same problem on the clio wingmirror plates where i have not masked off properly.

What is the best way to get rid of these so it just looks like the normal black without covering it with bumper shine or some thing like that?

I cant imagine anyone with an ounce of self respect outside on the drive covering all the black bits of the car with peanut butter!

Dont these just mask it though? They come back after a few weeks, oui?

just use AG bumper care. a little of that goes a long way and it works perfectly,

only £5.99 at halfrauds for 6months worth

Just to add in here, something like AG bumper care is a finishing product. The reason cars are masked up prior to polishing is because it's a barsteward trying to get white stains out (yes I know how that sounds).

As Ali has said, some simple linseed oil works a treat. The peanut butter trick works (apparently) due to it dissolving the polish, hence washing it away.

You need to remove, then cover/protect the plastic trims, just like bare paint.

Thats what i was getting at. Pretty much all trim gels just mask over the white marks?

its not wax, its the residue from polish after detail with too much ater in the ad as its ran down the plastic bumpers hat are textured.

right then i think for the Landy ill be taking all the huge black bumpers off and just spray them matt black, and just mask it for the clio as there is not that much.

nooooo!! Spray them and they will flake, trust me. If you keep trim dressing they will be ok

as previously mentioned, use an eraser (rubber)

lightly rub the white marks and the rubber removes them, it doesnt mask the marks it removes then :D

so no real answer to the orignal question then. peanut butter sounds like a piss take to me.

Has already been stated because of the oils.

So if you don't wanna use peanut butter 'cos it sounds stupid'

Then use linseed oil or groundnut oil.

You wanna remove the marks and not have to keep masking or painting over them.
