White wheel cleaning



Right - I know I shouldn't care how dirty the track car is but the old OCD cleaning ***** part of me won't die

I have white 2118's and DS2500's - the nightmare combo
Every week the wheels are black

I used to just use meguiars alloy wheel cleaner which did a good job of getting rid of the brake dust but the wheels now have blobs of black "stuff" stuck to them - I think it's hot rubber or possibly tar

What's the best way to clean them and are there any products that I can use to stop the wheels getting too caked up in the future
I'm taking them off the car next week to clean inside and out

products as advised as above, but.......

being white get them sealed otherwise accept the fact that there gonna be filthy. once you've been through the full wash process using above, get something like gtechniq C5 / wolfs rim shield / nanolex sealant etc on after an IPA wipedown and this should see them resist all but the worst for quite some time.

Sealing and waxing them is 1000x easier than using a variety of harsh products on them.

Once they're prepped properly, you'll only need a splash of Bilberry and a rinse.

From someone that's had white Turinis for five years, it's the best method.

Agree with above. Seal them properly with FK1000p / Planet Polish Wheel Seal & Shine / similar product and you should only need to shampoo / agitate for a few months until the protection wears off.

Just cleaning them and not sealing is a waste of time to be honest.

Ok thanks for the advice guys - is the sealer something you just apply like a normal wax?

Yep. Just apply in thin layers; usually 2 will be quite enough and buff off. You can even use a normal car wax / sealant if you want to.

Yes. I use it. But FK1000p is not a "normal wax/sealant" as it's specifically designed for high temperature/chemical environments, such as those found around the brakes/suspension.

I would class a normal sealant/wax as Chem Guys' Blitz or Crystal Rock. These would not last.

True. I still think some protection in the interim period would be better than nothing at all though and if I had a pot of Collinite or AG HD wax lying around and I had no wheel sealant I'd pop that on instead to tide me over.

You could do, but it wouldn't last very long to be honest.

I agree with you entirely. However, I would also refer to the 7 Ps; Proper Planning and Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance. I.e. stock up with the right products first, then embark on the "correction".
